lmao the polish color commentator on Eurosport mentioned and praised Bernal showing off the maglia rosa just before crossing the line like 6-7 times from his arrival till the results being shown.

So yeah, this kinda sucked. No images for the meat of the climb/the descent and obviously cancelling of Fedaia and Pordoi, just disappointment all around for what on paper looked like one of the most exciting stages in the last few years easily. Hats off to Bernal, what a great ride again, kinda sad though that there is no one who can even try to challenge him here, Yates not that strong obv, Landa out, the rest just not strong enough. And Remco - look, I really like the guy myself and have huge hopes for him just like everybody does, but his first race in such a long time after a horrible crash, being also his first GT ever, well it just does not sound like something that helps you become a threat to win the race, does it. Who knows with Buchmann, but I doubt he would be challenging Bernal on Giau too.

All one can hope for in the final week is some good action for the rest of the podium, as the time differences are not that huge yet tbh.
  1. Caruso 2.24
  2. Carthy 3.40
  3. Vlasov 4.18
  4. Yates 4.20
  5. Ciccone 4.31
  6. Bardet 5:02

And who knows about Martinez, who has looked strong so far, maybe they allow him to attack on one of the stages, after all it's only 7.17. Almeida on 10.01 right now at 10th.

Remco 24:05 down today btw.

Hot take, but Remco's final day at the Giro, period, I'm guessing. Will likely focus on Tour and Vuelta to test his GT potential, IMO

The folks at Quick-Step - the sponsor - just signed a 6(?) year extension with the message (press release) that they wanted a Belgian Tour-winner...
A good block of training for him.

Same here picked Landa, Soler, De Gendt & Champoussin. Almost half the team out
LOL I would’ve taken Soler too but had to choose between him and Landa as my GC rider. I went with Landa because Soler was still unknown on GC and I felt like Landa was due to win a GT. Usually I’m pretty good at these things but this was a massive fail.

No chance. No proper preparation for Porte since they cancelled the mighty Willunga Hill in January.

That's what I thought at first, but they rode it anyway in the festival of cycling, got gifted the stage by 20 year old Plapp who "Got to follow Richie the whole way up!".

For the non-Richie fans out there, and I know there must be at least a couple, be afraid, be very afraid.

I share your feelings, this stage had the potential to be one of the very best the last 10 years judging on how the riders rode with just Giau. Imagine a full stage with live pictures. These stages are why I enjoy cycling, so thats why it bothers me even more. Oh well, not one for the books :(

Richie seems happy to be back as the second last carriage on the mountain train. His podium in the Tour exorcised some of his demons............
