Giro d'Italia 2023, stage 10: Scandiano – Viareggio 196 km

These are two seperate issues in my opinion: People wanting to race in nice conditions and cancel stages with bad ones - you're not made for this sport mentally.
People dropping out because they are sick - I don't think anyone does that without very good reason. If there is an actual change and not just our feeling, it's because there's now an additional tough virus, and maybe because these riders don't have the body to withstand bad weather.

I mean, I could mentally handle racing one day races with bad, even horrible weather, but a gt with that wouldn't be for me. I also get a sore/stiff neck whenever I don't put on a jacket on a fast descend (even in the summer) and have neck pain when it's cold and rainy, so this Giro wouldn't be the right race for me...

If Spilak was still around this would be the GT for him, he'd unzip his jersey and put 3/4 of the peloton OTL. Still kinda sad that he didn't try riding the 2013 Giro, that one with it's horrible weather would have been perfect for him.

Well, they won't find a lot of rain, if any, the next two stages.
But thing ain't looking that good for the week-end, though there is still room for changes

I know it's terrible to ride in rain and cold for hours and I'm not going anywhere near the speed of these guys. I don't want to say it's not extremly unpleasant and makes you feel really bad, and, yeah, 3 weeks, that will be an immense strain on the body.
But it's also a question of one's attitude I think: For me GTs are also about getting through such terrible conditions for 3 weeks. For some that seems to be a fault in the system, though, like all conditions, roads and weather, should be nice and this is something that shouldn't happen. But actually it "should" happen, it is a normal part of the whole thing. This spring has been quite wet in some parts of Europe, more than people thought it would be, but in general everybody knows the Giro can be wet and cold, even for 3 weeks. Someone whose body really isn't made/trained for this might indeed think about whether a Giro is for them - although that might be a tough decision for an Italian...

Eurosport commentators said that there will be rain in the next days
The bad weather is more towards the east, and they will be north-west the next 2 stages, so maybe some rain, but better then today and sunday.
However,i just checked and the wheather forecast puts rain on Turin on Thursday, so maybe just 1 day of rest.

What's your prediction about the gap between the two climbs?
From one summit to the next, does the gap grow or shrink?

Ha, when I had read the first sentence, I was going to reply that he should have ridden the 2013 Giro :D

This must be the wettest edition since then.

We here need to be grateful for the wet sprint. During the 2nd half of the winter we had no significant precipitations for 50 days, so rain (and snow on the mountains) was really needed to fill up the water reservoirs and prevent potential droughts during the summer.

Bais being good in this kind of weather makes sense, all riders from Trentino seem to handle bad weather really well. Having to train with bad weather a lot when you're growing up will do that to you.

Absolutely, it's not as bad here, but similar. Nature needs it desperately and ground water needs to be refilled at least a bit.

In 3 stages I lost 4 of my 9 velogames rider all abdondoned due to illness. I never play it again because it ruin the enjoyment of races. What a joke!

Anyway I like races in these conditions. Reminds me all the wet and cold trainings I used to do after school. I could have been the next spilak if I had a lot more talent
