I really hate how close the cars get to the riders after a fall. One of those cars must have been within 2 feet of his head at 20+mph.... seems senseless as the cars can certainly out accelerate the peleton

Stop being condescending. The statement is valid even if the person doesn't know how people drive in Europe/Italy.

The boards are here so we can comment as we watch. As a rider, if a car got that close to me I would freak the F*** out. You can feel free to ignore comments you don't find relevant.

God forbid that people feel irrationally apprehensive about normal stuff after a shock like the one we just went through.

It's human nature, people. Mocking it won't make you internet hard men.

At what point does a single rider become a threat to win a stage? I know sometimes a rule of 1 minutes per 10k is used on reasonably flat courses with a small escape group (6 guys).

Would it be reasonable to think that if he still at 6 minutes at 30k that he would have a shot?

You forget to take into account the fact that these riders spent an aweful lot of time together during training, races and training camps. The ones you mention don't spend anywhere near that much time together.

Quite similarly Ayrton Senna. I totally understand anyone withdrawing from the 2011 GIRO. Sometimes it is important to follow your gut feelings.
A series of bad accidents and co-incidences preceded Ayrton's death. Leopard made the right decision. Farrar was respecting his friend.

anyone knows why Gazzetta's feed is (almost) always perfect?
There must be a lot of people watching, still it's almost HD. All the other feeds I watched gets choppy sometimes.

I would be nervous inside the car as well, especially if I'm driving - one eye on the tv monitor, radio in the ear, handing out water bottles through the window while weaving through the other cars and cyclists, all for hours at a time without rest...
