What was all the chatter about Cavendish & Co scoping out the finish on Google Earth? Did they need satellite coverage to discover that there is no way in hell a finish like that was within their grasp? Those switchbacks and gradients would put Cav out of contention without having to think twice.

Quite nice for Gatto to have straight up copied Bettini. I imagine there'll be a bit of hype about him in Italy now.

I wonder where Pinotti was today? Bak did a very good run into the climb.

Kristoff made it to 4th so in hindsight it wasn't such a bad idea to try.

Absolutely. Crushing the will of all the contenders was worth it alone. Psychological warfare.

THIS! Clear message "Dont get too c0cky! I can take time from you whenever I want "

Oscar Gatto = solution to boredom. He's a quality rider.

+1
He is in great form! and take his climber legs for this giro... Now the pressure is on Visconti to take a win in La Maglia tricolore! cuz the team has his win already...

Very smart attack... 5 + 12 secs and almost no wasting energies... If I were a GC rider NOW I'll be REALLY WORRIED...

Perhaps now Contador's rivals will be too afraid to attack on the Etna :p

Instead of his stupid pistol shot in front of him, he should look back and do the pistol gesture to who ever is behind him.

A rider showing that he is capable of winning the race by 10 minutes is definitely good news.
He showed nothing of the sort. He attacked on top of a small climb, if not on the flat, and caught everyone else off their guards. This doesn't mean he'll destroy them in the real climbs, just like yesterday's stage didn't mean he wasn't in form. It just means he's kind of nuts and willing to put up a good show. Which is good news.

He's wearing race number 181, riding for Bjarne Riis. Time to go extraterrestrial and roll the years back to 2006.

El Pistolero criticizing his own screen name. Funny.

Pinotti isn't exactly an explosive rider, he'll be happy he hung on.

You're right, Siutsou would have probably been a better call.

It seems RCS has had a timing meltdown, still no results.

Yeah, I may have been way too harsh, especially considering Petacchi was third!

From CN feed:

15:46:10 BST
Gatto celebrated with his arms in the air and Contador in his slipstream. That will be a photograph for is bedroom wall.

Let's agree to disagree as it didn't look like it was just for a show to me.

I was somewhat reminded of Paris-Nice a few years back when Contador attacked on the final small climb the day after Chavanel got yellow. He was caught on the descent but a couple of days later he crushed the field on the big MTF.
