Garzelli should be penalised for taking bottles (to get a slingshot effect) in the last 20 km but of course it won't happen.

Let's agree to disagree as it didn't look like it was just for a show to me.

I was somewhat reminded of Paris-Nice a few years back when Contador attacked on the final small climb the day after Chavanel got yellow. He was caught on the descent but a couple of days later he crushed the field on the big MTF.

was thinking along the same lines that maybe he was just stretching the legs a bit after all the soft-pedalling for the last week. a quick tune-up before Etna

I think he will get a penalty (likely a 20s penalty and a minor fine), I'm sure RCS are well aware that Garzelli won't be part of the top10 GC in Milano anyway.

his left knee was swelling horribly & literally killing him after that nasty crash- can't blame him for that

testimony then to how great he rode on the sterrato stage

Team cars are being abused so much I'm starting to think they should be replaced by team motorbikes and neutral vehicles. Imagine how the AIGCP would react to that.

Yeah, that was kind of silly.

Edit: Only Napolitano ended 4 seconds ahead of him. The rest was at least 1 minute back.

Kristoff to HTC instead of Cav next season??? Then this "excuse" could finally be left out. I've seen the statement made by ACF a lot of times, but I'm still not sold on the excuse being plausible. Even a blind chicken finds a kenel of corn now and then...
Sacha Modolo was the fastest sprinter at Milan-San Remo 2010, but was starting from 15th place. There is a level of truth to it - but I'm just not convinced that Kristoff is "one of the fastest sprinters out there" at all. He looks to be a quite talented one who can get over a few obstacles.

Garzelli had to make a monster effort to even get back into the pack..

I wonder whether he will receive some sort of sanction for his actions today, it really was far too blatant.

The stage was boring, the finish exciting. I do believe that Vino has learned Contie a few things last year :p

I really don't get it.
If Contador is really in good shape, why did yesterday suck? (yesterday he DID suck, even if he's not a sprinter (but neither Nibali are, still he followed Scarponi)). If he planned to take some bonus seconds, it was better to do it yesterday, taking this stage as a rest.
I guess (imho) he's not in top form, and this attack was to put some fear into Scarponi et Co. hearts in order to make them attack a bit further tomorrow.

WOW didnt watch the race but looked like an exciting one with contador getting away. Great move by him but i think he shouldnt have wasted the money with etna coming tmr. But sad thing he lost the sprint, if there was one kinda like mende. wow great ride by TGAK, finally showing us that he can do something. I kinda lost hope in him until now. wondered what would have happen if there was a sprint for the win. BMC proving everyone wrong about the weakest team in giro, eventhough i still believe they are

lol

the other weakest team contenders:

Omega Pharma - win a stage
Rabobank - stage, pink and white jersey wearers
Farnese Vini - win a stage

BMC get one 4th place in a stage and suddenly their not the weakest team in the race anymore? You and ACF crack me up.

Not a BMC fan, but Kohler also held the green jersey for two days.

Maybe you should read my post more carefully, I mentioned that I still believe their the weakest team in the giro. But they have at least proved to the cycling world their worth in this giro with this 4th spot and the mountain jersey.

Yesterday was not a climb for Contador, and furthermore he had more to loose than to win. Today it was a 2 km effort: if it goes well then fine, if not then he does not burn much energy. Tomorrow we will see how strong he really is. IMHO he is going to win this Giro, quite easily.

I didn't mean he was supposed to attack at 10 km to go...
I meant that I expected him to try to sprint. At least not to let the gap open (but he did let that, and he risked to lose other seconds if Purito didn't close that)

Riders sometimes talk about "opening up" their climbing legs when a grand tour gets into the steeps. I don't understand exactly how that translates physiologically, but maybe that was part of what Bertie was doing today as well.
