What a massive overreaction because Aru dared to sprint to the line. They aren't best pals in this race.

They were friendly enough for Aru to ask Contador to work.

Enemies can cooperate when it is mutually beneficial.

I doubt Contador is going to be in a cooperative mood the next time Aru asks him.
Contador's objective is to win the Giro. I don't believe he's going to be irrationally upset and refuse something that is in his interest if there is such a situation in the future. Like, say, Aru, Contador and Landa gapping Porte.

If he has enough in the legs to work in such a situation, he will just go ahead and drop them, not work with them.

So programme for the next week is
Rest day
Boring sprint
Good hilly stage (Astana?)
Boring sprint
Fleche Wallone
Monster ITT
The mountains begin.

Not the most exciting ever, but should be a good weekend and a good 3rd.
The FW stage is before the boring sprint, Hitch. You got the order wrong

I don't know what you're talking about. Those sprint stages seem ideal for Aru to get bonus seconds.

At one point I thought Cannondale had this in the bag. :( Slagter comfortably in front and Hesjedal not working behind.

Tiralongo was apparently much stronger than Hesjedal today and rode away on the climb easily, so there was little they could have done to beat him for this. At least Ryder got some time back in GC, but to me it doesn't look like he is strong enough to be in top10 at the end of the race.

Also lol at the "burning bridges"... you're at the line, everybody sprints to gain the most seconds possible. It's not rocket science.

I can't believe so many people are whining at Aru for spritning 100m to the finish line. This lad attacks every stage and every moment he can and yet some people are compaining. He's giving everything out of him and that's it. Should he be more patient and wait for high mountains? Perhaps, but he and his team made us a great week of racing.

That has nothing to do with anything. You don't ask a rival to work with you and then proceed to *** the same rival over after he works with you.

It's not him sprinting to win the stage, it's about him asking Alberto to work together and then sprinting.

Two different things.

Look, it's not the end of the world. But clearly Contador had words for him at the end. He obviously broke whatever agreement they had. It's not going to matter in the end, but it was dumb and a no-class move.

If he was capable of dropping them, he would have done so even if lil Aru hadn't sprinted today.

Aru's little talk came after Contador put a little dig in.

and what agreement did they have? Let's get to the line as slow as possible, we don't wanna gain too much time?

Why are people talking about Aru sprinting? Is this the first time you watched a race? Bizarre complaint

I have no idea what agreement they had, other than it included Contador helping. And that after the sprint, Contador went directly over to him and gave him a few words which did not appear to be congratulatory.

Again, it does't matter, it's a second. Which makes it all the more dumb.

Everyone sprints to the line. What are Bertie and Aru supposed to do? Agree not to sprint and let Riche PorteCabin ride away? Get real

sprinting is not attacking. Or do you really think Aru sprinted in order to gain seconds to Contador? In a flat sprint?

No one in that group was going to sprint until Aru had the bright idea to do so.

Do people really have this much trouble reading a race?

Did you mouth-read that?
Is sprint considered an attack?
Get real, everyone is going for it and Aru who is unlikely to do great in ITT needs every second that he can get.
We dont know what the agreement was, hell, we dont even know if there was one. Plus Aru didn't ATTACK. He SPRINTED.
Unless you consider Cavendish, Kittel the most agressive riders out there who attack every flat stage...

Hard to say what the net benefit of Aru's action is.
On the plus, he has 1 second
What does have have on the minus? Contador's eternal wrath? :p

Good for them. I don't see any reason why Aru shouldn't try to gain as much time as possible. Also considering that 9 sprints out of 10 you drag everybody with you. If both AC and Porte couldn't keep his wheel, it's their fault.
