There is one problem I've noticed. As exciting as it might be, it lacks less because its a team competition. It might be good for the cyclists themselves. But how many fans actually support teams? I know I don't.

I think that makes no difference at all.
In a normal race if you support Quintana, you're automaticaly supporting Movistar. The same for Contador/Trek or Froome/Sky.
This is a fight for points, so it makes more sense to score has a team.

If you like a certain rider to win a certain race, it would be weird if you didn't want his team to do well in that same race. Supporting a specific rider, usually implies you also support the team, because the team is helping that rider win.
Imagine you want Contador to win the Tour, but at the same time, you don't want Trek to do well. That makes no sense.

I'm really confused. I think I read that the result for the first two days isn't just the addition of the points from the first and the 2nd day, but that it's only about the results. So a team which finished 1st and 2nd, will start before a team which finished 3rd and 1st, even if the 2nd team has won more points. But now the GCN guys are talking about tomorrow as if the result really would be an addition of the points from the two days.

The rules are hilariously complex. In the 'overall' standings, there are now a bunch of teams with '0', although they did score points in the two races. Doesn't look too good. Also, we didn't (yet) get to see the end result of today, which downgrades that race.

That's because you're still thinking about Hammer Series like it was a normal road race. It isn't. It's just like what happens on the track. What matters is the points. You don't see riders celebrating in the Omnium or Madison just because they were the first to cross the line on the last lap.
Betancur celebrating yesterday kind of made sense, because Movistar did win the race yesterday. Today, Cannondale didn't win anything, so it was silly.

They don't no, but, track cycling is mainly representing countries. Road racing needs sponsorship. The whole idea is putting your hands up at the end to get the 'money shot'.
