Valverde is such a gritty, crafty rider and he gives such pleasure to watch. A real racer. Oh to have been a fly-on-a-top-tube and heard the exchange b/w AV and Contadaor, before Valverde cracked him...

Contador: "No me arranques, no me arranques"

Valverde: "Esto es una competición"

Heh heh
:D Well played Alejandro.
Haha, can't blame him for that

Valverde though is awesome; what an incredible racer. It should really be impossible in the modern era of specialisation to be winning multiple classics and contesting the podium in multiple GTs. Would be incredible if he could win the Vuelta again.
Really agree with this. Valverde has always had enormous class as a rider. I'm glad he won his GT before being given a time-out.

3rd at Tour, 1st at Vuelta, 1st at Lombardia and San Sebastian. If you could only have one of these, which one would it be?

Vuelta by a long way.

If the choice was 1st at Vuelta or 1st at Worlds it would be much more difficult to decide.
I think it's easy in this case. Definitely 1st at Worlds. He should've been a multiple world champion.

Definitely. Only thing bigger than a WC is a Tour victory.

Well, he was beaten fair and square all those WC's. The winners deserved the victory in the end.

Yeah Arredondo, we know everybody how you like Valverde. The man is probably the best rider in World Championships history

Not for a spaniard. Not for an italian.

I think it's a great rider. But it's nonsense to say he deserves to be multiple world champion. You deserve it when you are the best that day.

Re: Re:

Well, I say Purito deserves a GT victory. Would you agree? I think the same for Valverde and Worlds. It' s just that they've been so close many times and we all know they've been capable of achieving this goal. It feels like their palmares aren't complete without those wins. Nonetheless both are having superb careers.

There's no race like the Tour. Its prestige is second to none.

No, he should have won a GC. But that's something else.

Based on his perfomance in the Giro of 2012, you can even say he doesn't deserve one. But Hesjedal and Contador deserved their Giro and Vuelta win.

Meh, Giro can give it a run for it's money. ;)
Not even close. The Giro might often give us more exciting racing, much like the Ronde or PR might often be outdone by the lesser cobbled races, but in terms of prestige, in terms of how much GC riders want to win the Tour, in terms of how hard it is to win it/the quality of competition, the Tour completely overshadows the Giro and the Vuelta.

Only reason the Tour is so important and overrated is because it's in July, when most people don't have to work, there's no other interesting sporting events going on and people usually don't do jack *** all day. And they need something to talk about. That's were all the July fans come in.

Put the Giro in July and nobody gives flying *** about the Tour, except the diehard fans, who would be less bothered than normally by the Giro and all the July fans may even enjoy true racing

I would also take 1st at Vuelta for the original question.

1st at Vuelta vs. 1st at Worlds...I would probably take the WC, but let me tell you why: b/c I'm camp, and I would thoroughly enjoy spending a year peacocking in the WC kit.

I think when you are a legendary allrounder with many talents, having a palmares that reflects that would be great, which is why I think I'd prefer 3rd Tour and 1st Lombardia to 1st Vuelta. Just one of those vs 1st Vuelta is still difficult. Worlds is a no brainer, trumps everything for a rider like Valverde (other than 1st Tour of course).

If he were a k GC only specialist, things are different. As many Tours as possible would make for the greatest palmares then.

WC only trumps Vuelta for Valverde because he already has a Vuelta!
