Yeah, but 95% of the pro peloton did not won the Vuelta, 2x LBL, Fleche and major stage races before collecting all those podium places.

I hear you. He is top shelf, always has been. A bit past his prime but always a danger. It isn't popular but I like the guy!

I like his riding style mostly because he uses the drops a lot (like every pro should do!!!!), but his cycling brain is as useful in race situations as a rock. Perhaps even less useful as at least you can throw a rock at your opposition

It isn't, he has the most beatiful riding on the bike and that is enough for the fans like me. He is also as nice as you can get off the bike.

Its due to tactics, but also to the fact that other riders are better. He lost LBL because Martin and Purito were better for example.

Did he learn something from Strade? (Or Florence?) His third was impressive after missing the Kwiatkowski and Sagan move. Maybe he starts riding like Evans did in 2010-11.

The thing is that while he has no real ability to read a race and come up with a Plan B, his Plan A is actually very effective and gets him a lot of wins in many circumstances. When you are the climber with the best sprint, hiding until the end of the race is in most situations the optimum strategy. So there is little incentive to adapt.

Superb start of the season. Hat-trick and overall victory in Andalucia, first in Murcia, third in Strade Bianche and now the winner of Roma Maxima. If he continues like this, it will be one of his best years ever.

So what's next? It looks like he will participate in some semi-hilly cobblestone races. I don't think he can win there.

He will do well in more races leading up to the TdF. As soon as the TdF comes around he will have some terrible luck, and Quintana won't be there to cover for him. I like Valverde alot, I hope this doesn't happen, but it probably will(based on previous years.) Then he'll go on to podium at the Vuelta(and win the points jersey.)
