Extremely impressive yet slightly disappointing at the same time. Can't see Martin or Cance going for it tbh so this will probably stand for some time.

Unless they make the attempt at altitude.

Didn't look totally spent afterwards..
Makes me wonder if he could not push himself hard enough when he realized 55km was not possible?

Very impressive. His pace didn't really drop that much. I think he still managed a pace over 54.2 km/h for the last 5 minutes although his pace seemed to drop quickly.

Wiggins coaching team believe it will be 54.5.

They were right. Shame the air pressure was bad because they also say it would have been around 55.5km with better conditions.

if martin or cance have a go i think it will be at the end of their career..............when they can train specifically for the effort...........

Yep, I can't see either going for it now. Martin more likely to have a shot, but without specific preparation.

I think the next realistic attempt will be from someone like Phinney or Dumoulin. Phinney especially should have no problems doing an attempt at altitude.

Boulder or Colorado Springs next year I imagine.

What gear was he riding? I thought the commentator said 58 x 18 but I'm sure that is incorrect.

Depends on the UCI perhaps. I means Wiggins is a phenomenal time trialer and a track man, so there would have to be a real beast to come along to take it from him. What else can they do with the bike to make the equipment finer, given the technology already put into it and the restrictions placed by the UCI?

At any rate, Chris Boardman is still nearly 2 ks per hour faster, even if his record has been stricken. The radical position, though, would still take an exceptional cyclist to overcome the biomechanical problems, or at least one would think so. However you look at it Boardman did something ET that day.

Tony can beat that quite comfortably assuming normal air pressure conditions. I think Wiggins would have another go if Tony did it.

I also think Tony can beat it. 54.526 is a great record, but given the amount of speed Wiggo lost the last 10 minutes, the record feels a little sub optimal.

Great stuff from Wiggins. Very good job indeed!

But

Why is Tony Romingers record not the standing ?

I think it was just because he used a 650c front wheel. Doubt it was really a big benefit; especially not compared with all the aero advancements in the last 20 years.

Hopefully, the dawg will do it at some point and beat it, improbable I know but that would be very funny particularly if no one beats it in the intervening years. lol
