it's true - I saw a photo of him from 10 years ago, he had a small head, no facial hair - in fact he would have passed as a 12 year old boy.

He's taller now too. Obvious result of HGH.

Look at his face in this sprint finish.. how do you win a bike race and have this absolutely calm face?? Sprinting should look like pure agony! I can understand if it's flat, or downhill, and you just time it perfect from behind someones slipstream.. but dang..

just wait before someone notice he was sprinting holding brakes not handlebars :D

i read an article today with his former coach,he said sagan is very good at hiding pain

I'm mostly interested how he will do against Cav in the TdF. He's winning a lot, but it's in the ToC and TdS. Let's see how he does when he competes against the most successful sprinter of the last couple of years.

ETA I just realized this thread is in the clinic. I don't know if he dopes or not. Zabel did. Boonen did coke. Some sprinters dope. Sagan? dunno

He isn't like Zabel or Cav though, he can go over the Poggio with the best, and excels in long hard stages with uphill sprints especially (although definitely not a requirement). Boosting your oxygen vector or whatever you guys call it would do wonders for that type of rider. What would Cavendish ride like if he had Dr. Ferrari helping him out? He would be more in the style of Sagan! I really hope Sagan is clean but damn I just get a bad feeling when I see such a tranquil face at the front of a finish line...

nah, Cav would not improve ever to the level of Hagen or Sagan.

Best ever sprinter tho. no doubt.

but I assume he is on all that is available under the sun as is. ;)

Sagan's face at the finish line, versus Fab's and Eddys... wow.. dude doesn't even seem at his limit.

Sour grapes? It's the 21st century, I think we can move on from the "face method" of catching dopers.

He must be doping - no one not manipulating the oxygen vector could have the composure to demonstrate such elaborate, "showboating," and frankly, disrespectful victory "salutes" after an uphill finish. lol.

This Sagan guy reminds me of watching Basso in the 2006 Giro and I was thinking 'mate! don't make it so obvious! wrinkle up your face a bit and pretend you are hurting at least!' lol!

My hunch is Sagan has tripped the wire and that grenade is just ticking away before it explodes...

Seriously, grimacing means jack. Mancebo grimaced. Moncoutié doesn't.

I think it was more the manner of victory. Spartacus was going all out to win that tough finish. Sagan swatted him aside and won with relative ease on what was a difficult finish.

He is a superb rider but questions will be asked due to the manner in which he did it. It just looked too easy, and he looked as if he could go back around again.

I don't think it was easy at all. He was in serious trouble when Chavanel attacked, later on he was perfectly placed in Cancellara's wheel, and sat there for the last km.

The guy is incredibly explosive and has fantastic bike handling skills. That's 99% of his talent, and makes him great in technical bunch sprints, short hills and prologues with short hills. He has been fantastic in those races literally since his first pro race. He hasn't done anything particularly suspicious (outside of the general suspicion for every good cyclists). Bump this topic once he starts excelling in long time trials and mountains and starts doing long solo's.

It wasn't the chicken dance salute. It was that he didn't seem to have broken a sweat. Cancellara looked wasted by the effort. Maybe I didn't catch the photo of Sagan post ride looking tired. The guy looks like a once in a generation talent. I hope his career doesn't get spoiled by doping.

Or, far worse, the focus of the anti-doping illuminati and their rabid fan-base

coming from a lackluster-yet-still-self-confessed-doper-USADA-tool,
that's pretty rich, Joe! Painted yourself a corner where sarcasm doesn't work,
and if you weren't being sarcastic, then...thats just sad.

Was Sagan regarded as this amazing talent before turning pro? How good a jnuior was he.

I think he was brought up by the local sports system and hailed as the next god. Yet his listed power for his winning climb is something I could nearly match :

http://www.srm.de/index.php/us/srm-blog/tour-de-france/727

To me the first thing I find odd about Sagan's file is the 206 watts average.

I've seen some of Greipel's SRM Win's averaging 255+ watts in the Tour of Germany for a flat stage & on the dead flats having to average nearly 400 for the last 10 minutes (probably close to 500 watts normalized). The fact that Sagan is following arguably the strongest 3,000 meter rider in the race uphill for the last 2 minutes going 23 mph up a hill and he only needed to average 493 watts stinks to me of a slope change or a miscalibration. Cancellara can average 500 for an hour for christ's sake!

I'm wondering what Sagan's real power was...
