There you have it. He finished on the top step of a GT 7 times, the fact that he (wether you think it's complete bullcrap or not) won't change that, that only changes the GC victories on his palmares.

Dumb thread btw, it's one of those threads people will never agree about cause it all boils down to a rather controversial ban, about which people will never agree. I think it only gives some people a new platform for baiting and trolling, and I might even think that's the exact purpose this thread was made for

I recommend people to stop making these threads

It's a stupid thread. Everybody knows, deep inside, that he's won 7 GT's.
Even if Andy may have deserved to win the 2010 Tour, AC still won it on the road, and the 2011 Giro is AC's as well. Regarding Scarponi as the winner is a joke.
Only the haters deny him 7 GT's, because they desperately try to make him seem like a lesser rider if he's "only" won 5.

Just curious -- Why did Andy deserve to win?

Goodness. Have certainly missed riveting threads in that pro road section of the forum.

Or something.

How this thread can have anything to do with anything other than trying to provide an opportunity for polemic is beyond me.

Welcome to the Clinic, my friends, enjoy your stay.

What a bunch of idiots this thread has. People who has no idea about reality, who are prepared to call people who have cheated to win the winner of races they have been stripped. How the **** is this sport going to clean up if dopers are still regarded as the winner of events they have been removed from. Calling Contador the winner of the 2010 Tour and 2011 Giro is just helping doping. I am absolutely furious and upset.

Go for a ride buddy. And consider the situation in Gaza or with the Tamil tigers to restore a sense of perspective in your world view.

Doping and its effects is a first world problem at best, and not something that you should ever let upset you.

The current trend is for AC threads to turn ugly when someone dares not toe the Contadorlieber party line.

So everything cool with trolling then?

None of you would think there's trolling going on here if Luigi Max had said Contador has won 7 GTs.

Who care if people thinks it should be 5 or 7? You didn't saw me whine about it in the last trolling attempt we've had. Dont like hypocrites though who acts as if they like the rider (Luigi) but takes every opportunity to discredit a rider and even starts a thread about it. Its comparable to hypocrites like Walkman who use anti-doping as a shield but are only angry on Contador for it and defends Rasmussen in the same breath.

There's only one absolute truth for the AC fans, and those who deviate from it are trolls or idiots.

Rubbish. But i'm not surprised.

Looking forward to all those AC fans calling Cance > TheRest a troll. Because they're consistent and all that, you know.

win1
[win]

Synonyms
Examples
Word Origin

verb (used without object), won, winning.
1.
to finish first in a race, contest, or the like.

Contador finished first in the 2010 Tour and the 2011 Giro. That physically happened. Therefor he was the winner of those races and therefor he got the 2010 Tour and 2011 Giro titles. He was stripped of those results, that didn't mean he didn't finish first. Titles are awarded and hence can be stripped

So, even if he has only 5 GT titles on his palmares, he won 7.

Luigi_Max said:
. People who has no idea about reality

In reality, Contador never tested positive in the 2011 Giro, which means that, according to doping law, he was clean in that race. That didn't stop them from stripping him of this title.

Also, Contador was never found guilty of doping, he was found guilty of having a banned substance in his body.

You know who was awarded the 2011 Giro? Michele Scarponi, who had previously been convicted for involvement in Operacion Puerto.

You seem perfectly fine with the fact that a man who was found guilty of having a banned substance in his body gets stripped off a result in an event where he tested clean, while the title he got stripped off goes to a man who was found guilty of involvement in one of the biggest doping scandals in this century to date.

You know what helps doping? people who are totally oblivious to the fact testing clean doesn't mean there's no doping. There's zero proof either Scarponi or Schleck was clean in those races (Scarponi served a 2 year suspension before, Schlecks brother made payments to Fuentes before). Nothing is worse than a superjuiced guy proclaiming to be the cleanest rider on the planet.

If you're gonna be upset simply when someone else has a different opinion based on solid reason, you're gonna have a bad time

I call the OP a troll, as s/he sounds very familiar with the writing style here....
Reported

I always said I accept the CAS decision with Contador. If you ride for Hog, of course he will have the best riders doped.
Anyway, he got punished and served his ban.

Doped now or not, he is still one of my favorite riders. He looks smooth on the climbs, and takes risks to win, with win or lose attitude.

And even he never managed to hold a season winning condition, like we've seen the past couple years. Funny.

Rubbish. But i'm not surprised.

I am not acting like I like Contador, I do like Contador.

He is the best GT rider of his time.
He races aggressively which I admire. His desire to win won the Vuelta when it looked like he would not and his attacking in the 2011 Alpe D'Huez stage was great as well.
He is great for racing, has a positive impact on the races he is in. There are no negatives about him racing in my view.

However he has only officially won 5 GTs. That is the truth, the complete truth. Disagree with the decisions that lead to that number all you want but you cannot change the facts those decisions mean he has only won 5 GTs. The stripping of the 2011 Giro was a wrong decision in my view for various reasons but that does not mean it did not happen. He cannot be called the winner of 2011 Giro.

I am not trolling in any way, I am writing my heartfelt opinion on what is right and what is wrong. I am writing it strongly but it is entirely and sincerely what I believe to be totally true.

I could be wrong, but I do think it is against the rules to directly call someone an idiot on this forum.

You should never post when you are furious and upset...it'll just get you into trouble. Calm down and then engage.

Excellent post.

There's a name for the fans who continue to promote doping:

Dopologists.

In this particular case they are affectionately called:

Clentadopologists.

They are rampant on CN. They have replaced the LA chamois-sniffing fanboys.

you guys are forgetting about CHAINGATE!!!

remember that the evil mastermind contador cheated by using MIND CONTROL and TELEPATHY to force the cherubic, innocent andy to completely forget how to shift a bicycle, causing him to lose valuable seconds.

so contador really only won 6 gts.

If a moderator wants to move to the clinic then I would have no problem with it.

However it should be a simple matter of acknowledging the facts.

2010 Tour winner is Andy Schleck
2011 Giro winner is Michele Scarponi.
It does not matter how it happened, Alberto Contador is not the winner of these two GTs. Even if you think the decisions were wrong it does not change the facts about the official winners.

Just like the tour officially has no winner from 1999 to 2005. Lance Armstrong is not the winner of those tours.

Simple facts.

unless they GIVE THE JERSEYS BACK!

Some additional thoughts, which I wasn't sure I could add while this was still over at the Road Racing subforum:

The stripping of the 2010 TdF-victory was okay, as it was during that race he actually tested positive. The stripping of the 2011 Giro-Victory, however, not-so-much. Contador never tested positive during that race! The only reason that result got stripped was because CAS was such a bunch of slowies in reaching a verdict, so that when they finally did - and gave him a "back-traced ban" - it had to appear as if he'd never actually raced during that period.
Of course if they'd been quicker in reaching a verdict he would have actually not ridden the 2011 verdict, or if they'd given him a 2-year-ban from the date the verdict was finally made he'd have missed the 2012-Vuelta, making him to still only have won five GTs.

Also: Contador hasn't won as many GTs as Armstrong; he's won five more.
