You never know with Italian riders getting sick these days. Now it's a bad stomach, in a few months you'll find out it's mononucleosis or some sort of chronic gastro condition. Just never get your hopes up.

I'd have Ayuso at 4, both Yates at 3, Hindley at 2 and Landa at 1 star. I'd also have Zana at 1 star tbh, rate him at least as highly as Ciccone, Del Toro and Bardet nowadays

13 days before the race starts and we still don't have the roadbook, climb profiles or finish maps (and it's not remotely likely we will be getting them today or tomorrow either). Unlike last year I've started working on the stage host introductions in advance which should help, but it's still going to be a hectic week and a bit to get the stage by stage analysis done in time...

I mean, I agree that for both DFM and Hindley the path to victory probably goes through a Roglic crash, but that's still a path. Which is more than I can say for some of the proven non-contenders listed instead.

I would not list Martinez anymore, not because my reasoning at the time is invalid but because it seems he needs too long to build form again after his injury. I would definitely still list Hindley, though.

Hopefully Jai Hindley can have a strong race but he's been underwhelming since moving to Bora. This Giro Hindley will working in the services of Rogla again. So after winning the 2022 Giro convincingly with an amazing stage 20 climbing performance Hindley seems to have downgraded his ambitions to being a super domestique. Hindley was also improving his TT back then. Maybe he prefers less pressure.

He did win the Giro with BORA and rode a pretty good Tour for them as well. Sure, he has disappointed since then, but it would be wrong to call his stay underwhelming in general.

You never know what happens during the race such as Giro and the plan is for Jai to do Vuelta in 2025 season.

Not really and never really thought of that. But Bora's team leader Roglic is the overwhelming favorite still.

I still hoped for more from Hindley after what he did at the 2022 Giro. I am just surprised there hasn't been more discussion.

There's obviously no doubt that he got screwed over a bit once Roglič suddenly became available. That was probably not part of his own plans at that point. However, he did extend his contract a year ago so either he still believed it was the best team for him, or no one was ready to offer him a better deal. But as DE rightly points out, BORA is not exactly flying high at the moment, and that feeling is not only the result of us having expected too much from the riders.

His performance this week does at least not indicate he has peaked too early for the Giro, but with the team's current results in mind, it doesn't exactly fill you with hope on his behalf either. But if he proves to be strong enough next month, it will still be possible for him to ride a great GC of his own, despite having to work for Roglič. And then there's of couse also the possibility of Roglič not being able to finish the race which could rocket him back into the limelight, unless Martinez/Pellizzari wins the internal battle. But as CA says, he can also just wait for the Vuelta to leave his mark, unless Roglič ends up starting there, too.

As I recall, after Hendleys 2022 Giro win, he targeted the Tour and was very clearly not in the same ballpark as the top contenders. And nothing he’s done is on the level of Roglic in last years Vuelta. I’d love to see him ride as plan B tho.
