Make that triple lol. It is the other's teams fault he hasn't got last years punches like on Amstel - Huy - Liege? I'm starting to think the Dutch 'journalist' was right and he did get a BP warning.

Yes, the latest quote snip from Phil does not sound too bright :p

Seriously, one or a mix of the following has occurred:
1. BP Warning, which may have contributed to #2 below
2. Off the juice (or way less)
3. Other teams have found better prep (I seriously doubt this)
4. Off season screw up with the juice, leading to season long 'issues'

I'd say there is a relatively good chance of doping last year, and either got a warning or messed up with it, but the burnout argument is also possibly part of it. Its pretty hard to keep your fitness at that crazy high of a level without burning out or having something similar like that happen. Warning/Bad Drugs + Burnout = terrible season.

Don't forget he lost his highly regarded and sought after team doctor to Team Sky :D

That is all you needed to know.

If he is this year, he is not doing it right.

The title of this thread is not specific enough. In the present, the answer is yours. Last year, the answer is "hell yes!".

At least we have an obvious marker now on what a good PED program can do vs probable clean. Unless, of course, you are on Garmin.

6. Ubiquitin/thymosin doping is noted by trainers to burn out their horses and greyhounds in a year. It's abuse is more sustainable for strength athletes who aren't under constant of aerobic stress.

The way he rode in 2011 points to something novel, and the correspondence to thymosin is compelling, both in effect and aftermath.

Watching the Vuelta today. Steve Gogulski is talking about Gilbert in the break away. Proceeds to say, paraphrashing "It is just mind boggling that Phillipe Gilbert hasn't won a race all this year. Last year, he was seemingly winningly everything at will."

Gee...I wonder why?!?!

Story in NRC today says multiple (ex) Lotto riders say that Gilbert often rode on false TUE for cortisones, provided by team docter Jan Mathieu (who prides himself for the victories of Gilbert). The (anonymous) riders say they used cortisones as well at Lotto.

Thomas Dekker is a likely source, because he already admitted he used cortisones at Lotto on 2008 with a false TUE.

Dunno what he has been doing on the weighlifting scale but he has grown HUGE imho.

He always was such a lean rider, rouleur

now he looks like he is made out of concrete.

Always liked him at FDJ I must say. It is not like he came out of nowhere. His 2011 campaign was extraterrestial. To say the least.

Gilbert's reaction is absolutely hilarious.

He says he is 'surpressed'. 'I have practiced my profession serious and in the best possible way. Both before and after I raced with Lotto I have won big races, most of them in a similar (what is said to be 'typical' for me) way. I hope that says enough'

Translation done by me, but in the original Dutch is just as vague and ambigious.
