I'm surprised EF and Trek didn't each put one of their two riders in the break to pull harder and give the group a better chance to stay away, especially if that got a few of the others to join in. What's the point of putting good riders in the early break if not to have a chance to win the stage on the final climb? I guess in part they were going on the assumption the peloton would give them a lot more slack and build a much bigger gap? And yeah, there's the whole not wanting to do the work and drag other riders won't work. Disappointing though.
