I thought Mick would be in the last 5 but Ivan outlasted him

Rogers spent a lot of time pulling on the front though and I think he did the last pull heading into the climb. Normally I'd expect Sagan to not be in the top 5, but since he had a chance at yellow TCS probably decided to keep him as the 5th rider.

Very sad news for Basso, I wish him all the best.

Big shock to Saxo as well, to think Basso has done a Giro and a first week of a Tour with this is incredible. The team morale will be low you'd feel. Get well soon smiling assassin!

Armstrong retired after a couple of stages reported being unable to breathe properly and coughing blood. Speaks volume about Bassos capacity this.

Get well soon Robo.

Jesus, the negativity. Of course, cancer is serious business, but you're acting like he's dead already. That kind of overwhelming negativity and outright fear that probably surrounds Basso right now certainly can't help with his recovery.

He's still sick. He's still out of the Tour.
Besides; this really puts all the criticism he's gotten about not being fit enough to ride the Tour (or the Giro) into perspective.

If the doctors are says 98-99% survival rate that is stage 1, he's very lucky they caught it early but even if they hadn't survival rates are good (around 75% even with metastatic disease).

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Damn that is not good news to read on the front page. Wishing him a speedy recovery. hopefully this doesn't mean the end of his career, would be a sad way to go out.

Terrible news today, but looking forward to good news very soon! Be strong Ivan!

Yeah. Glad that he was able to catch it so early. Hopefully it is stage 1, as King Boonen estimates.

Wishing the best for Basso.

I'm sure LA will be in touch with him very soon if not already. Frankly, this is helpful to LA, can get his mind off the federal case and his own troubles in general as he reaches out to someone else and offers the kind of support only someone who has been through this himself can. LA ignored his cancer at first, I'm pretty sure Ivan's was caught much sooner, which can only improve the prognosis.

While I understand the regrets of Basso's critics, a cancer at this early stage is not necessarily detrimental to performance. I don't think you can assume that had he not had this cancer he would have been performing better.

Basso is 38 in November, I think the TTT was his last race. Caught early he recovers well (which is what matters), but he does not come back. That's the sad reality also. Tough way to leave the sport after over 15 years.
