Thing that strikes me about this piccy is that Jan looks happy, I can't remember seeing that much during his pro career

I rode with him in the rain in November. The guy is loving life. Really.:) He's also very trim and fit and looks healthy. In shape but not pro cycling in shape which is anorexic.

Most top pros look ill, take Cadel, the Schlecks in last years TdF final podium shot. The human body isn't meant for the strain these pros put themselves through.
I am sure, looking at Jan, that he has decompressed himself by riding many long and enjoyable miles, upon retirement.

Can't wait to read his long awaited story!

Hopefully this year...

He is not the type of guy who throw words on other people. I am sure. If he'll speak, it will be about him. Don't expect him to name names. Some people like easy life, peacefull life, without complication. Yet, I don't know the story about him and mother of Sarah, his first child. What was that about, if anybody knows? Somethim about a gymnast, at the olimpics? This more like an offtopic.

LE: A book from Kloeden woul turn the world upside down. Contador, Ullrich, Vino, Armstrong, Evans, Schleks, Lepheimer, Cancelara, Savoldeli. All of them were, one moment in time, in same team with him.

Absolutely, Klodi is the ultimate Teflon, must have some stories.

First wife Gaby. The story the people don’t know a lot about is that Jan and his brother Steffen were beaten by their alcoholic father when young. Both Steffen and Jan went to sport schools which was a way of escaping the life of abuse at home. That’s why Jan is so close to his mother. When he won the Tour in 1997 he did a lot to help her out of her former life. He also did a tremendous amount work involved with children in similar positions. Most of it off the record without the press involved. The eating disorder he suffered during his career was less about cycling and more about his childhood. The Armstrong factor didn’t help much either. Knowing he was clearly better but resorting to the right program etc. grinded upon him. He saw many “father figures” so to speak advising him on the drug use. It was mostly a repeat of what he grew up with.

Steffen went on to run the 800 meters and won a national junior title in the East. He ended up becoming Jan’s mechanic and was always looked after by his brother.

Jan is very loyal. He feels betrayed by many. Voight and Aldag are two he’ll never speak to again. Aldag did visit his house to apologies for his remarks but Sarah wouldn’t let him in. Voight he has written off completely. Jens sent a conciliatory text message but didn’t get a reply.

Jan’s loyalty extends to never naming names. He sees no value in it. The way the German federal chased him along with the UCI he has never understood. Both groups facilitated and accepted doping so he never understood why they went after he him so hard.

Yes, I think he really looks like a guy that has found happiness in life.
his body language looks open and relaxed..

Like I told you earlier, the Jan learned to smile professionally.
Anyway, Jan still comes over unstable and insecure.
He is still in therapy for his depression and will have a big timeout after the ruling.

My feeling is that this man needs a purpose and to be involved. Involved in whatever.
So far he always got another slap as soon as he crawled out of his castle and tryed something. Besides that, he doesn't trust anyone and went thorugh the painful process of finding out who are the real friends and not.

You mean the West Germans were doing state-sponsored doping of children from an early age using drugs that caused lasting and serious after effects?

Man, now it have to be little kids ?

Like always in those fantastic hog-tales, the proportion of truth and facts is estimated at around 1-49%.

Thank you, some details there I've never heard of. Very interesting. The UCIs extraordinary interest in putting the screws to Jan is very irregular.

If Jan ever decides to write a book, do you think it would:
(a) be well received in Germany or just slagged as another German doper.
(b) be written in German and English
(c) be about his personal life, doping and his review and recollection of races he failed and succeeded at?

I know that those are very 'wide open' questions but...just asking :)

Please hightlight the parts you think are bordering fiction? This topic is close to the hearts of many, and false rumors would be a shame.

thanks,

No, thanks.
One day I became tired of correcting the hog-tales.
It would ruin and take away all my freetime.
Perhaps, if I was paid for it.
You know, it's a hog-post. That should say and be enough. If you are serious and not ended up in the group of fumbling haters.

Did you ever notice that thehog and others only use Jan the man, to ramble on Lance and make him worse ?
That's what I call disgusting.

Wow, I'd never heard most of that stuff and I'm a big Jan fan, although I always felt let down that he couldn't trounce the uberdoper like he deserved. He certainly couldn't get the right advice from idiot like Pevenage...it's hard to believe no one could help him properly during his career.

So while we're at it what's the story with Gaby ?

You are so factual, it looks a bit like the daytime USA drama, 'Days of our lives.'

So, it's 1-49% true, but you don't feel like saying where the truth is? People who make statements should be prepared to back them up, or retract the statement. Are you related to Polish by any chance?

Let me give you one hint, dear newbie and ex-fanboy.
You are trusting on the wrong group of people. You chose the easy path.
It's not easy for no reason.
I'll give you the chance to learn. You still got a lot to learn.
I am proud to consider Polish a friend. I still thank god that he lead Polish to this forum, and the forum does too.

Your thoughts on Jan ?
Or did you just come here to believe in and defend the hog-tales ?
This is like riding downhill. Be careful not to miss the corners. Thats the only thing you have to take care of....on the easy path.

Last but not least, read my complete post again. I am around here long enough to know what I am talking about. I know my Pappenheimers, and especially the hogs approach.

He has written a book. There is a wonderful story after the drink driving, xtc incident where he wrote on the back of a wine label – “I’ll never be here again”. The book has the a picture of the label with the words. The book was only in German but ProCycling magazine did translate excerpts into English.

I would expect a new book but more along the lines of the first one. Another honest account of his life. Not a book about doping.
