So right and obvious! We also got some info on this. Always great when you can get such insight before the season starts. Very happy for Almeida as well. It is deserved.
I'm not surprised anymore that the same handful people get surprised each race based on their projections. Guess what, people—riders improve each year, some more than others. It’s hardly controversial or difficult to admit.

So right and so obvious, very to prove he is not better. Thanks for sharing that.

Now here are the true you like, since you usually post things from this site.

2023, Xorret del caty, 6.87 w/kg in 13 minutes, better than yesterday (6.85 w/kgb 11 minutes).

Monasterio de tentudia, 7.11 w/kg in 9 minutes and half.

You just needed to look at the gaps to guys like aranburu.

It had everything to do with his wrist injury. His suboptimal preparation took his tool just like Vingegaard last year. People tend to forget Pogacar crashed almost 3 weeks after Vingegaard (different years), even if Vingegaard had obviously way more severe injuries.
Seriously you are comparing a wrist injury who did not prevent him from training, to a guy who was broken in a half and spent 2 weeks in a bed of hospital?! Let's be serious when we discuss this matter.

Good point. Pog had way less time, but was still very impressive. Put up a fight way longer in that edition.

For me it is a bit silly to compare with TdS 2024, he still didn't race TdS 2025 so we never know what shape he will show there.
It’s very misleading indeed; one has to focus on performances comparable to the current date. Almeida—like everyone else—is on a form trajectory each year. One cannot compare when one guy is peaking for instance (in his case Tour last year and this)to when he is far from peaking; it’s as misleading as it gets, hes on a trajectory.

It’s the same as looking back for answers—and that always leads to the wrong answers and a handful people getting surpised.

Ya'll act like he has already won this race. He hasn't. There's still time to *** it up.
I’m sure he can. I’m no fan—no more than I cheer for anyone who delivers good performances and shows improvement—but that aspect hasn’t improved. Almeida is still prone to silly mistakes, though I’m sure hes aware.

Beating Vingegaard twice is almost impossible to do unless your name is Pogacar. I'm not saying Almeida is close to Vingegaard's level, I'm just saying he never did these top performances in previous years. For me it is a bit silly to compare with TdS 2024, he still didn't race TdS 2025 so we never know what shape he will show there.
He's done similar performances but he met stronger competition hense wasn't winning..

If he didn't race Roglic (who wasn't convincing but still...Roglic), he would win TA 2023. He would be top favourite for Catalunya 2024, and would possibly win it if it wasn't for Pogacar.

Here's an idea: let's make the Almeida thread as ridiculous as the Pog thread.

I asked the silicon oracle the obvious question:

Who could be Almeida’s Mou?

Mou’s whole vibe is mythologizing Pogacar — turning him into a blend of warrior-poet, cycling messiah, and cosmic force of nature. It’s lyrical, semi-ironic, deeply committed, and wildly entertaining.

To match that energy for João Almeida, you'd need someone who:

  • Fully understands Almeida’s stoic, diesel-like aura
  • Sees romance in suffering, patience, and control
  • Treats Almeida’s time-trialling and steady climbs like holy rituals
  • Turns restraint into legend — like "he does not attack, for the mountain bends to him eventually"

There’s no clear "Almeida Mou" yet (to my knowledge), but there’s huge potential. A few possibilities:

1. A fictional or future prophet:

Someone who treats Almeida like the monk of the peloton. A silent force, the shadow who endures, the guardian of the watts.

You could create an anonymous account like:

  • @DieselProphet
  • @WattByWatt
  • @TTMessiah
  • @TheAlmeidaCode
  • @JoaoOfTheNorth (Game of Thrones crossover energy?)

And tweet stuff like:

“While they dance on the pedals, João walks on water.”
“João does not chase the moment. He becomes the moment.”
“He will not attack. He will arrive. And they will not survive.”

2. The vibe of someone like @cyclingalps, but with more Joao-core:

A poetic poster who blends scenery, tempo, and rider essence. Almeida deserves someone like that. Not flashy. Not ironic. Just deep. Like:

“The storm is quiet. His name is João.”

AI poetry can be so beautiful! :joycat:

I reckon Buitrago is the one most like to be ultra aggressive and launch in the opening third of the stage. It could be a threat if the likes of Skjelmose/Van Wilder/Lipowitz can latch onto such a move as they need far less time gap to flip the GC.
I am not sure.

Buitrago has been struggling with allergies and has a lot of time to make up.

It is also the first race after injury for him.

Think he just wants some race days before Ardennes.
