He says today surprised him and that he pushed fewer Watts than in Dauphiné with the same setup.
Which would be a pretty horrible sign. I am sure most riders (incl. Pogacar) would have improved quite a bit from Dauphine.

So remains to be seen if off-day, fatigue from hard flat stages (yes, still making that argument :p ) or general stagnation after Dauphine. I don't believe in the later, they should have too much experience for that to happen.

He also said he definitely has gone up a level since Dauphiné, which is why he still thinks he can win the tour.

Or Vingegaard did actually empty the tank trying to keep up and over did it, maybe thinking Pogacar will have a poor TT like in the CdD.

Otherwise it was a shocking poor performance today from the TT form he’s shown previously this year. If his climbing shape hasn’t drastically improved, the Tour isn’t going to be as close as we thought/hoped.

Didn't think it will be close at all after Dauphiné, quite the contrary, and today only is further proof of that.

Could even see him missing out on 2nd(not that it matters much for such a rider) at this rate.

Before anyone says a flat ITT isn't his forte, you should remember his performance back in 2021 in stage 5's 25km ITT in Laval.

That Tour is what started the whole Vingegaard Tour de France story with a huge level that gets a boost based on his July peak - including in ITT's, whether flat, hilly or mountainous. That's the interesting part, i.e. being worse than Dauphiné here says something has gone awry.

i think visma should have listen to his wife :

Speaking to Danish outlet Politiken, she said: "Knowing Jonas as I do, I’d say Visma is pushing him too far now. I’m afraid he’s burning the candle at both ends. I think people sometimes forget the human being behind the athlete – and how to get the best out of him. It could all backfire.

"Jonas doesn’t recharge on another three-week altitude camp with the team. He needs to be at home in Denmark, with us, to feel truly himself. He’s deeply attached to his routines. Sometimes he needs to reset in the calmest surroundings possible, just with his family. That’s a huge part of who he is and why he’s successful.

I can't agree with his wife. He is focusing all year on the Tour and of course Visma demands sacrifices when his only goal is to win the Tour.
But after seeing this interview, I believe there is a possibility Vingegaard will not race the Vuelta.

Visma is science driven. It's not news that Mathieu Heijboer is all about data, data and more data. And right now they're trying to beat Pog based on that data.

But two wrongs don't make a right, i.e. there's a scenario here in which Visma have indeed pushed him too far to reach a level that isn't his whilst at the same time his manager (& wife) is coming up with solutions that are far above her paygrade and have little basis in reality, i.e. looking at abstract emotional and mental aspects that in isolation weren't the determining factor in his past victories (because you don't smash Granon or Combloux with hugs and smileys).

But now that Pog is at a better level there's not much to be done, i.e. whether it's constant never-ending altitude camps or playing scrabble at home with his family, the end result would be the same.

Carpentry stuff will decide the rest of the season. If there's a lot of work to do then the wifey won't allow Vuelta.
i really hope he will not be forced to do the Vuelta.
Vuelta is probably the least commercial GT, and it doesn't have a lot of exposure outside of Spain , and perhaps even Europe.
i do believe Vuelta should be for the little riders - the Sep Kuss ,Simon yates and Ben O'Connor type of riders, and a place to discovery of young talent like Castrillo.

Maybe but I think Vuelta gained more prestige over the last 10-15 years because top riders participate more often.
