Because you are comparing a specialist (Ganna) to a generalist (Pogacar). While Evenepoel (generalist) and Vingegaard (GT rider) are much more similar to each other.
Remco does not race classics, nor is one of the best climbers. He defends himself in the mountains. He has gotten beaten more in GC in many races against many different riders, than he has won them.

He is not a (generalist).

He is great in flat ITTs, hilly one-day races and can ride GC when he has had perfect prep. He does not go well on all terrain though or is one of the best at multiple ones.

He is 3rd best one-day rider of the peloton (with 4 big wins), one of the 2 best time trialists (probably will end up as the best) and a GT winner.
How he is not a generalist then?

He doesnt ride on all terrain, nor is one of the best in multiple ones.

He has not raced 3/5 monuments.

Thats enough to claim he is not a "generalist".

He does consistently get beaten by other riders in stage-races and GTs. Especially in the mountains.

His one GT-win is looking more and more like an anomaly.

He is not a "generalist".

Who, aside from Pog, is a generalist then?

Also, why is his GT-win looking like an anomaly while he has since then finished on the podium of the Tour behind two guys who are widely regarded as (being amongst) the best GT-riders in the history of the sport and he has ridden a Giro where it definitely looked like he would compete for the win before he had to abandon due to Covid?

What is a generalist then? And can you name me one beside Pogacar?

Looking back at Trine's comments about racing too much, altitude camps and the likes puts things into perspective and really underlines how ridicolous that article was in the first place - there is absolutely no chance other than preparing 100% optimally for a race like this against Pogacar. You can't have the best of both worlds if you want to beat Pogacar, and you probably can't beat him anyways, but this is not the Jonas of 22-24. This is the Jonas of "hey, I imporved my explosiveness for absolutely no other reason than keeping it close until the mountains".

I wonder how Jonas and Visma feels about this. Grischa was very honest about it all, but haven't heard a bleep from Jonas who most likely was very, very disappointed. Matteo was defeated, no excuses.

I dont use the term generalist. I responded to a post.

You cant claim he is one though when he doesnt even race on all terrain, nor is among the best and only defends himself in some.

There have been very few riders who can win in classics, one-day races and GTs.
If by the term classics you mean cobbled classics, then there are no few but only Pogacar, and we must go 30 years in past to find another one.

Proves today he is still clearly the second best rider.

Looked much better today, think he went over his limited a bit yesterday and paid for it.

Still, must be demoralizing for him seeing Pog dominate again.

Giro next year?
