Like I said, Lipo is nowhere near his level.

MTT is another discipline. Roglic for example struggles on longer and harder mountain stages, but still has the turbo to do well today. Lipo is much more of a diesel, so I still think we'd have to wait for tomorrow to really assess their level. Of course Lipo's pace was more constant yesterday, but remember that he still made a bunch of accelerations in that group behind, but Vinge obviously blew himself up in the bottom half.

Guess wrong and stage 16-20 will be a very bad place to be in and it helps UAE to have some of those contenders closer to Jonas to force the issue.

Why? I'm talking escapees from the GC battle that don't matter to Tadej. Vingo can't afford to give 2 minute gaps to those guys and attempt to retrieve them. He's going to have to choose those efforts if he wants to save 2nd place. If it's all about the top step; then it's the same game that got him here.

Am I the only one who finds it a little absurd that after one day of blowing himself up and only being slightly ahead of the mortals, losing 40 seconds on a 10km MTT is seen as a big success? Nobody could seriously watch yesterday and come to the conclusion that he is on par with Lipowitz now

No, you're not the only one. There's just no real excitement about it because of the gap to Pogacar still being very big.

May be the first time I remember two big rivals in cycling have near identical performance gaps in 2 consecutive years.

Still a long way to go to Paris. And in 2023, Jonas was exceptionally strong in the 3rd week.

Pogacar was quite strong in th 3rd week of 24' though. Arguably stronger than Vingegaard 23'

Just read the below in the race thread because Jonas didn't finish far ahead of Lipowitz and Gall today that he is far below his best? I think we are uderestimating Lipotitz and Gall but if this is true then what explains his lower level as this year he didn't have to recover from a big crash and injuries?

prime Vingegaard shouldn't be finishing only 10-15 seconds on a stage like this ahead of guys like Gall or Lipowitz who , with all due respect , they're not top tier GC riders . So that tells me Vingo isn't even close to his best days during this TDF

Today he wasn't going full gas after his attack IMHO. He lacks confidence to go crazy against Pogacar.

Sometimes I feel he doesn't like to be a professional cyclist anymore.

Yes, I got that impression in 2024 with his rushed prep to recover then he kind of broke down after one of the last stages showing the pressure he had been under. Surprised not more was said.

After Hautacam beatdown Vingo showed very good form in the last two stages. He still lost time to Pog, who's been superior so far. However, there's still a lot of good terrain to attack. Huge climbs which are among the hardest in the race history (like Ventoux or Madeleine south) and two mamooth Alpine stages. Visma & Vingo will try a long-range attack once hoping for Pog's bad day, I can't believe they won't (either stage 18 on Madeleine or stage 19 or Pre).

Other than that Vingo may attack in the middle of Ventoux (which is the best climb to attack and gain time this year) but it's likely that Pogi will be the first to attack there (the win is so prestigious). Should be a great battle on the Giant of Provence with both protagonists motivated to attack hard.

The one thing I noticed, Pog is really dam tired and we saw it on stage 14. Pog even said he almost cracked on the TT. Jonas is recovering better and looking fresher. I don’t think it will be enough to matter, after the rest day Pog will have recuperated enough to defend in week 3. But who knows, we could have some nice races ahead.

Hopefully Jonas keeps fighting, maybe nab a stage win or two.

if Pogacar really had a cold yesterday an attack on latest Peyresourde was an absolute must. No matter what - whether he was tired himself etc.. He will not have many shots at Pogacar during this Tour. You cannot let one just slip.

The only way he wins the Tour is when Pogacar crashes. They are not even on the same planet. Pogacar is putting minutes into him and is just chilling. A smal cold changes nothing.
