Given how he’s been riding lately, it feels like he’s mainly trying to assess the level he’ll need to win the Giro while using as little energy as possible, so he can save as much as he can for the Tour. That would also explain why the gap today was smaller than expected.

Looked very easy today. Rode them off his wheel with just a pace lift and soft-pedalling the last 400 meters.

The team was pretty bad, though. No crashes for excuses today. But getting an armchair ride to the last climb because RB has just given up on the win saved him a bit.

Yes, the team is not the force when he won. And Pog upped his game.

Gut feeling is that he's in higher level than two previous seasons, but not the level of early years 2022-23. Bit disappointed he didn't open gas fully like eyeballs out in last time up Montjuic steep wall. He seems more measured these days, the open rage of early years is missing somehow.

Hot take: Seixas to VLAB to up the game and get the best out from both, Vingo and Paul.

His best level ever is 2024 and by a decent margin. Numbers don't lie, both in Spring and July.

Numbers do lie, unfortunately. I don't buy that Landa was so strong in the 2024 Tour that he would have won the 2022 and 2023 Tour had he shown up in the same shape.
Vingegaard's 2024 Tour is unlikely to be his peak when looking at how he performed compared to the competition. Tirreno 2024, okay that I agree, that was very dominant. But I think now he looks the best he has been since the crash in the Basque Country. It is still significantly below the level Pogacar has reached, however, but I expect him to be slightly closer to Pogacar's level this year than last year.
