It is not him being "punished". Moreso the team is not changing their initial plan just to accommodate Ayuso, because he unexpectedly or by his own doing was withdrawn/removed from the Tour.
It wouldnt be fair to Del Toro, who has prepared specifically for the Vuelta.

So reading the article, basically Ayuso and Gianetti, they came to the mutual agreement about what is best for Ayuso future and that is for Ayuso having long Covid ATM. Rather convenient.

I think if he was in good shape he would do the Vuelta, but it makes sense to get 100% first, then race. No way, Gianetti would never allow for it, the rest is BS. So, what is the next GT for Ayuso then? Vuelta or Giro 2025? Or doing the Tour again, where riding for Pogi?
The thing about Ayuso is that he is Matxin's favourite. Matxin has put so much time and effort into Ayuso/ has acted as a mentor to him that he won't let Ayuso go. He wants a spaniard to win the TDF and he wants it to be Ayuso.
and I hope Ayuso understands this and is aware he can do it with UAE. I think Gianetti and Ayuso got a little carried away in July /same as journos and fans) but Ayuso is there to stay. he just needs to read Jorgenson's interview about how he had to deal himself with training and performance while at Movistar

From my couch perspective his best shot would be going for Giro 2025 and then see how it pans out. Maybe afterwards go for Vuelta and be at least 2nd top dog if his Giro is good and Pog is at the Vuelta.

Exactly this. If he goes to Movistar he might as well throw his career away. Or sit out the rest of his contract at some beach while being paid by UAE. Same result
I would take the quotes from the rider and team at face value rather than this ongoing speculation.
He would do well to focus on the Giro next year where depending on Almeida’s plans he could have sole leadership.
I agree with CyclistAbi about the Ayuso situation. I think Ayuso is on a good level but they won't let him do the Vuelta because of the Tour events and Gianneti. Ayuso at the Olympics was at his high level. That's why he finished with Pedersen's group on 22nd place (only 2:20 mins down). Now they are giving these media explanations about Ayuso's plans for Canada and so on. Well, he will be on water carrying duties for Pog in Canada. They will give him a second chance next year but if an accident like Galibier repeats Ayuso will become the next Diego Ulissi or Marc Hirshi.

It wasnt in the plans he would do the Vuelta, nor does he have the form to compete now. He has not had a good preparation to be ready to ride a good GC, so whats the point.
He can be leader in many races, but was adamant about doing the Tour this year and got what he wanted. Where he knew he wasnt going to lead. Still he went. Then tried to force himself into the Vuelta team, when that had never been the plan this year that he would do. While not prepared enough.
Up to him how he goes forward but maybe it can be a chance to mature and improve further.
I mean we had our fun, knowing there will likely be frictions at the Tour and all that. And indeed it delivered. But now punishing the kid for the mistakes of the management, to put the kid in such situation in the first place, that is just wrong. Decision is now on Ayuso if he still feels UAE is the best place for him, or not. Relations are in my opinion tainted but then again in cycling things can change over night. So i guess we'll see on how this unfolds in the future. Will the long Covid drag on for years or, hopefully, a better solution to emerge.

Mistakes of management to put the adult in such a situation? What, wait, but wouldn't according to your "logic" making him ride the vuelta be another mistake of management? Putting him in a potentially difficult situation. Make up your mind.
The punishing at this point simply is something you made up, like you make up "multiple interviews", but only come up with 1 non-interview, like you make up management mistakes.

Giro + Vuelta seems a very obvious one for Ayuso. He can get to lead one of these GTs, at least as a co-leader. This just seems like a lost season at this point (okay, maybe not lost, but at least unfullfilled with DNF at Dauphine + Tour and no Vuelta) unless he brings the good in the classics because there's literally no stage racing for a rider like him at this point IMO. You have Canada with Pog going, then you have Worlds and some Italian classics where Pog will lead Lombardia. Lol. Not much room there, but he has had a quite long season with heavy racing in the spring at least.
Realistically, what races will he even do? Pologne would have made the most sense I think but thats not happening now.

The decision was already made before the season and he himself was really adamant about wanting to do the Tour. He got what he wanted.

They already had a practice run leading a race together in Suisse. Btw, who else was there? You guessed it! Del Toro.
UAE just standing on business and going with what they had decided for each rider and the team going into this season.
Thats not a punishment, thats just saying no and looking out for his best interests longterm. Maybe it has sunk in for him as well, hopefully.
