Junior racing - The stars of the future

There were 2 important junior races this weekend.

First of all Le Trophée Centre Morbihan (2.Ncup)
First year junior Blikra won stage 1 in the sprint, he also won stage 2 the ITT with a pretty big margin (19 seconds in 7.2 km), which was the decisive stage for the Final GC.
The final stage was won by Fillippo Rocchetti.

3. Niklas Larsen (Den)

The other important junior race this weekend was the Internationale Junioren Driedaagse van Axel (2.1) (although not as international as Le Trophée Centre Morbihan)
The overall of the race was won by Dutch speedskater Peter Lenderink who was in the first group in stage 1 (won by Dennis Delmote) and finished 2nd in stage 2 the short ITT (won by Senne Leysen). Stage 3 ment a 3rd Belgium stage victory as Thimo Willems won solo. The 4th and final stage was won by another Belgium rider Wouter Persoon.

(Lets hope Peter Lenderink is a good boy and decides to put his focus on cycling instead of speed skating)

Adrien Costa finally came to Europe to show his class and in first serious race he lead American team to total domination in Tour de Pays du Vaud. He won two stages (queen stage and the time trial, both with decent margin) and the overall of course.

Would love to see him against big guys like Blikra, Klaris or Bouhanni.

Think in climbing he is far above them, but well they dont climb that much in the junior level. But I think Blikra and Bouhanni can both survive the hills on their power not on climbing ability. Klaris might be build a bit more as a real climber, although he also won PR .

If we are talking abut climbers then i think it would be Paret Peintre and Kamna for now as the best ones. But as you said, there arent many mountanious races for juniors. Basilicata nad Lunigiana might be good chance for Costa to show his climbing skills but i'm afraid the Americans won't go there.

Choosing between cycling and speed skating, should be so easy. Either stupid circles every 30 seconds or riding wherever the asphalt leads you

Some time ago I heard of a guy named Oskar Svedsson (or something like that) who has a VO2 max of 97,5 ml/kg. Yeah, it doesn't necessarily he will be an alien who's going to be able to climb the angliru at 1000 watts, but damn, his engine looks pretty fantastic.

That would be Oskar Svendsen who won the TT in the Junior Worlds in 2012. Only one or two Cross Country skiers in Norway has had anything similar measured so he should have great potential. He has had a poor season so far however, and is probably too old for this thread now at 20

That is a shame, I heared about Shaw quitting, but didnt know about Edwards. They were both very talented, (lthough Edwards was very physically mature).

It remind me of Dale Parker quitting a few years back, that guy was so incredibly talented, I was really sad when he quit , his individual pursuit world record (u19, 3km) is so insanely fast. And he even was 2 steps further then Edwards and Shaw, he could have signed with Radioshack, but he was also depressed by the bike.

Germans and their TT-skills. Just can't beat them. Ullrich, Grabsch, Martin, ... "Panzerwagen" (german word for tank) describes it pretty darn well.

Eddie Dunbar completes the Junior Tour of Ireland and Junior Tour of Wales double, winning by nearly 5 minutes after riding away from everyone on the 2 major climbs of the Tour. With a strong Irish team behind him he is definitely one to watch at the Junior Worlds next month, and indeed one to watch in the coming years, rumour has it JLT Rapha Condor and An Post are among the teams looking for his signature.

Its so different...

Having been there, predicting a junior based on their pre-junior performance is so difficult.
As a junior they likely race a 52X14 max and before that maybe a 52X16. Big difference from spinning to power.

As a junior they tend to race more hills where in many countries the pre juniors race mostly flats.

Race distance and time goes up. Still not where men race. But its not just about fast. It is about long - then fast.

As a junior they have UCI requirements.

I think Adrian Costa will surprise many especially as racing becomes more like what we see the pro tour riders do.

A freak for his age. Best junior in Ireland by a stupid distance, and seems to be considerably better than any of the British kids too. Of course, if it's hard to predict how good an espoir will end up as an adult, it's nearly impossible to tell with a junior.

It's not that hard to be outstanding in Ireland's or GB's junior scene. Dunbar is not that good, his national competition is just pretty weak. I don't see him in the World's top 10.

I think Dunbar is a pretty good talent, he can certainly top 10 imo. The route will suit him pretty well, Michael o Loughlin (a 1st year junior) is also pretty good.
