JV talks, sort of

JV...He sells us the idea that everything is so much better now, that the cool kids don't dope, that the new generation wouldn't stand for it.

In 2005 he told us that over 85% of the peloton was clean.
He said lance was an all American hero.
Jonny Weltz his employee made an effort to discredit Floyd and tyler by saying they were jealous,
David Millar vilified landis.
Talansky said there was no evidence agsint lance.
Christian said Floyd was telling lies.

In 2008 JV admitted that doping scandals damage chances of getting sponsors.

Mr Vaughters, the guy who waited until the statute was up before he came clean officially.

And people wonder why I have an issue with him and his team.

Not forgetting the amazing Ryder who stopped doping in the midst of everyone doping around him...which amazingly coincided with the statute...and JV believes him...or says he does.

Yeah JV is a great guy...as his team also are. The six month bans some got in winter...tough days.

JV the guy who tried to sign Alberto.

The guy who tried to defend Alberto when all evidence said his name was on Puerto files.

JV the guy who said Lance's values from 2009 could very well be clean.

JV the guy who calls Wiggins a p r I c k and then says last year he's a great guy.

JV the guy who said Stuart O'Grady's excuse, I only doped once, adds up...until Johan corrected his nonsense.

JV the guy who signed Thomas Dekker, not to give him another chance, but because Dekker was bringing sponsorship with him.

JV, the guy who vilified Jorg Jaksche.

JV is probably level 3. There are individuals operating at level 1 still.

He signed Dekker because he thought he would be one of those specimens like Vande Velde/Hesjedal who are actually better clean than they are doped.

My view.
JV is a team owner and manager. He needs results to keep going. Hence he has kept dodgy personnel around. Risks to Omerta drives some of the decisions as well.

So the key question for me: What is his intention?

Still think his intention is moving the sport in a cleaner direction and therefore he lands on defcon level 3.

If his intentions are to take full advantage of a "slower" peloton at some point in the future, well then he moves to defcon 1.

Very simplistic model.

you have to laugh.....

Jonathan Vaughters

Believe me, large sponsors don't care so much about the dozen weirdos that obsess over cycling drama on twitter.

When someone says believe me, i take them as lying.

A dozen weirdos! Wow this guy has an MBMA, who'd thunk?

If large sponsors dont care about '12 people' why is Garmin not a large fat rich sponsored team?

Must be the argyle, it is a turnoff

He's right. And Garmin IS fat and rich relative to continental squads.

90% of Garmin's Marketing department is still probably wondering why they are spending money on cycling. Cycling is an off-the-beaten-path sport. Waaay off the beaten path.

To be fair, Garmin do make the world's best cycle computers. But I see your point: any company ahead of the game doesn't need to preach to the converted.

If anything, team Bryton should exist instead of being a technical sponsor.

Huh?

The fitness segment is Garmin's fastest growing market. It is growing 25% per year while the rest of their business is declining. It now represents close to 20% of their total revenue. Garmin has received a good return on their investment in Slipstream.

Garmin's budget is not fat by Protour standards. They are about 1/2 that of BMC and SKY.

Is that you JV?

So you deny that JV was posting here about how good an athlete Dekker is and all the great things he could achieve at Slipstream?

Edit : May be getting confused but he definitely made comments along those lines somewhere.
Yep, something about losing weight and gaining power.

iirc he said he believed after testing that Dekker had the gifts to perform well when clean but he was less sure than he was about someone like Vande Velde due to the different levels of doping they had done in the past.

Its called hoping the guy gets back on the juice. Dekker stayed clean.
Van de Velde never went off the juice imo.
