Sure this has been printed?

For Pat McQuaid, president of the International Cycling Union, Landis’s accusations do not taint Armstrong’s reputation one bit.

“I think Landis is in a very sad situation and I feel sorry for the guy because I don’t accept anything he says as true,” McQuaid said in a telephone interview on Thursday. “This is a guy who has been condemned in court, who has stood up in court and stated that the he never saw any doping in cycling. He’s written a book saying he won the Tour de France clean. Where does that leave his credibility? He has an agenda and is obviously out to seek revenge.”

sorry, who do you believe?

To me the Zabriskie angle is a non-event.

It's obvious as daylight he WAS on the sauce, but I tend to doubt it now. Just look at how he wrote in the Tour TT's with SAXO--repeat SAXO. He's not the same rider now.

He's clean or much, much cleaner now. The Zabriskie stuff is a side issue.

It's the guys that win while on the sauce that matter.

Same for Hincapie.

If people want a clean sport, they're going to have to get serious.

If we want to be honest with ourselves, we have to admit that pro cycling defrauds the public while it systemically condones the distribution and use of controlled substances. It is professional wrestling on wheels. There are civil and criminal allegations here at least as serious as those in BALCO. If you want to get to the bottom of this, then there needs to be a grand jury investigation and these people need to be put under oath where lying is perjury and carries some real consequences. Even the mightiest athlete will wilt under that kind of scrutiny. Then maybe some truth will come out. Until then, it's just a big soap opera. Pass the popcorn!

Remember everyone, in the articles, it has been said that the Federal investigators that did BALCO are involved. This is going to go the federal committees and its not gonna be pretty when it starts to be found that federal, taxpayers money has been used to support cheating in sport.

I do hope that journo's do some good investigating cuz this could bring some big light and give people like Andreu credibility back

If he is guilty its great for the sport that he is tossed out

What I hate is how some here are laughing at the so called 'fan boys'

Will you also laugh at the millions of Cancer victims/survivors who see him as inspiration, hero?

Like it or not there are plenty who see him as a hero and will be devestated and angry - they dont derve the mocking there are getting tonight

That was my thought as well. I think considering the new evidence they are going to want their 5mill back and some. I think that might be fraud is it not?

I thought the Court held that doping was irrelevant, all that mattered was that he was the recognised victor of the event. So the only way SCA can get their money back is by Lance being struck from the records.

I can hear the shredders at the UCI working overtime at the moment.

Why shred now? If they are smart they destroy every tarnishing record as soon as it shows up. A lot less chance of leakage.

I read this story this morning and got really excited that the Armstrong empire might finally get taken down. Then I went a did a bit of fact checking.

http://www.tissottiming.com/sports/cycling/road/tds/2002/stage_01/ST_E_01_en.htm

Armstrong wasn't in the 2002 Tour de Suisse, and it was the 2001 edition he won.

You will find he was referring to the 2001 Tour de Suisse if you read over the letter again for 2002. He mentions the TDF, then he mentions Switzerland, then he mentions the TDF again. Pretty sure he was referring to 2001.

Ullrich was suspended for six months for his positive test for ecstasy.

Susan

True - but it was a recreational drug (Ecstasy) that he took and not a PED - except for bogeying the night away in a German nightclub - he wasn't racing at the time as he was out injured.

The court ruled that whether or not he doped is irrelevant. The contract was badly worded, which meant that as long as he won the event, it didn't matter whether or not he broke the event's rules. He was the winner and therefore entitled the bonus. Done. Finito.

Or, as Lance's legal counsel Tim Herman put it to the media: "This ain't no doping issue, this is a matter of texas contract law".

Of course, as soon as they won, they immediately put out a press release stating it had been proven in court Lance didn't dope, and other similar lies.

doping is an issue if ASO now rescind his victories.

Yeah and figure the fact that Lance and Brunyeel have financial agreements with the UCI. UCI is biased against Landis. This is true bullying/robber baron tactics in sport.

Remember 2006 when Lance supported Floyd's "innocence" claims. I'm sure that maybe he was pressured to proclaim innocence so that he wouldn't spill the beans about USPS doping systems in the 2002-2005.

This will spell the start for sponsors pulling out biggest of them probably, in my opinion, being BMC.

My opinion, that is all

I can't believe we're all talking about a potentially historic day in cycling's history and all the pro's are tweeting about mundane rubbish! I can't believe this isn't going to be the topic of many a conversation in the Giro peloton today.

I've got a feeling no one is surprised today. I'd bet they've all known for at least a month what was going down.

why single out SA - why not every other race and country thats payed a fee for LA's services

Why should the TDU be singled out

Because South Australia is the capital of doping in Australia.

French, another rider, O'Grady, Jonker etc. That French saga showed what SA is really like. Unfortunately he was the scapegoat. There were more involved.
