I've got this feeling there was no limit to what he would have asked for. It's really difficult to sate some individuals under certain circumstances. I'm not convinced LA goes down for this, but we shall see. If he doesn't, it was a shrewd move and probably the last possible hurdle for him to get bagged himself.

Could very well be. What seems different to me is the FDA investigating this and the similarities to Major League Baseball. I'm not aware of this being done with respect to accusations of doping by a US cyclist.

Good grief,

The guy was living in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and riding a bike without a computer.

Hardly an example of uncontrolled consumption.

Floyd got bagged under his own programme. I don't think it is a stretch to think LA/JB didn't have a financial obligation to pull him out of his own ****.

You don't think a federal investigation and possible prison term obligates one to do something to avoid these pitfalls?

Damn, I thought self preservation was the strongest instinct. I guess douchebaggery outweighs that instinct.

In the game of cycling poker, douchebaggery trumps a a royal flush.

Since Flandis had kept quiet all these years, maybe no one thought he would really speak out at this point.

A combo of douchebaggery and arrogance I would say.

The dude has played every available card. Geez, what like threatening to out lemond's molestation, hacking attempts, it goes on. He might have been raised into a simple culture, but he is anything but a man of simple means now.

You've said that twice now.

Ted Kaczynski? really? I think you've overshot it a bit.

If any of you were LA/JB, and you knew that Landis could make your life hell with accusations and possible wrecking your little Camelot, just from a business standpoint it would make sense to bring him back under the umbrella, even if just in a lateral sense.

Letting a wildcard like Landis go off the reservation is simply too big of a risk, especially considering Landis certainly can mount a particularly massive fight and complicate any issue, as was clearly on display during his fight with USADA. Whether any of us agreed with his tactics, it was as over the top as could be.

So, if you are LA/JB, why even possibly run that risk at all. Greed? Arrogance? misplaced Invulnerability and Immortality?

Colm posted this elsewhere, but just in case it's been missed. The New York Daily News again (seems to be the best source on the Landis case against U.S. Postal, etc.):

"Government assigns federal prosecutor Doug Miller to cycling case sparked by Floyd Landis e-mail"

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/m...ug_miller_to_cycling_case_sparked_by_flo.html

Some federal muscle. They're serious.

Yeah, Uncle Sam is sending Andy Taylor and Barney Fife to be schooled by the big bad Austin lawyers. Maybe you can email Novitsky and Miller and save them the trouble of even bothering to go any further.

Is there an alternate universe for doping apologists where the laws of physics and logic are different than the universe the rest of us reside in?

First off, the e-mails released by RS show that Kay and FLandis were looking for one big win so that Landis could leave the sport with his head held high. Even the Tour of California would have been sufficient. There is no evidence that Landis would ask for more. Even if he did then Armstrong and Bruyneel would be in the exact same position they were before giving Floyd a job; and Floyd would be in a much better financial position and have less reason to throw everyone, including his friends, under the bus.

Second, how can this be described as shrewd? Even if no prosecution against Armstrong or Bruyneel goes forward, FLandis' allegations will stick around forever. The mainstream media has already made an equivalence between Conseco and Landis. That is a simple explanation that is intuitive to all American sports fans. Sports Illustrated, the most influential American sports publication, is running stories about FLandis' allegations.

Every bit of evidence is cummulative. In 2012 or 2013, when Hamilton talks, the new information will fit together nicely with Flandis' information. Eventually riders like DZ will retire and not have a reason not to talk about Postal's doping program.

Armstrong could have easily prevented or delayed the Landis blow up. Even delaying it until he had retired for a second time would have reduced the volatility of the situation. As it is now, he is threating to beat up fans who call him out at races. He could have reduced his profile for a year or so and then blown off any allegations as something that happened a long time ago in a different era of cycling that is no longer relevant.

It was just plain stupid not to throw Flandis a bone when someone else is paying for that bone.

I am not sure I understand your post. Is this what you think Armstrong's prison name will be?

Lance's case looks to be in great shape: now, we have the jerk-off defense.

Should hire some new lawyers.
