Look a the pictures from wiggins moto, nobody can credibly argue this cancellation on safety grounds .
It's the timing of it. Announce that Iseran is the stage finish before it is climbed, not after.

mountain thunderstorms pop up quicker than to give a notice hours in advance. This is NOT in the TDF

Is this clown Prudhomme finally gonna get fired for being a disgrace to cycling now? How many more farces need to happen before he finally has to take his hat?

Certainly he could've found out the road is unpassable 15 minutes earlier and communicate it in time!
I’m sure you would’ve managed better, brains.

Well, it would have been way more sense if they communicated this at the bottom of Iseran, surely it would not gone this bad within 10 minutes.
The hailstorm happened rather late, apparently they didn't have a lot of time to react before reaching the top of the climb.

It’ll be interesting to know for how long the roads were impassible. It looks like it was on the final slopes of the Iseran

Stage winner time bonuses were for the first riders to reach Tignes. No one reached Tignes. Give them the Iseran bonuses only.

Ok... I have the information... they tried to clean the road in order to have the full stage, they waited too long because they wanted to finish the stage the way it was designed.

A late call

Could literally take the shortcut over the dam, have 100m of different roads, and cut 7km of the stage and just finish on the regular finish line

Let's see if they give the original 8-5-2 time bonus on the 10-6-4 time bonus for the finish or even both (this last one would be unfair).

A pity Froome isn't there, they could have used his nuclear powers to melt away all the ice.
He could have gotten off the bike and ran over the ice

Just transport all the riders past the blockage and set them off at timed intervals. Let them fight it out!
Man, what a disappointing day all around

Cancel the whole stage then

They can't do that. That would create a mutiny. Keeps Julian in Yellow. :surprised:

Would be about equally fair than what they do now. Of course Yates would have sprinted for the win and not paced him. Kruijswijk would have put everything in and not let de Plus ride and so on...

They can if you look at rules:

The president of the commissaires’ panel, after consulting the organiser, may take the
following sporting decisions:
- cancel or let the results stand in case the race is temporarily neutralised or
stopped, taking account of the gaps recorded at the moment of the incident;
- cancel or let the results stand of an intermediate sprint, mountain sprint or any
classifications;
- declare a stage or a race null and void,

Sounds like a lame cop out. In that situation, why not at least tell the riders that there is a good chance that Iseran may end up being the stage finish, so they can race it accordingly. From their reactions, it seems pretty sure that this wasn't the case.
