Lmao I just came home and see this. What a dumb thing to do, even tho it seems like it's a reaction to dangerous behavior from the other guy mid sprint. You can see Piccolo and (I think) Engelhart also being super mad at the other rider after the finish line. They don't hit him tho.

And is it just me or does Teuns win this criterium every year?

Oh, that’s an evil slap by van Gils… His face shows anger.

And all is on camera. Van Gils certainly will be DSQ‘d, and probably will face a sanction.

A hard, very angry slap. I hope the Greek rider is OK.

Not even Lance Armstrong might have done this to Christophe Bassons. Until now, I didn’t regard van Gils as a particularly aggressive person. I hope he‘ll speak to the Greek rider, and they will get along well, in the future. They however don’t race against each other this often.

Van Gils maybe mad because these are his last races on a Ridley, and they switch to Orbea, now?!… ;)

I just got an Orbea, I don't think he has anything to complain about.

It seems Van Gils has been handed a 50 CHF fine and a deduction of 10 UCI points.

Is it an Orca?

This is so backwards. It's the Greek who needs a good talking to. Putting your hands on someone at 60 km/h in full prep towards a sprint is much more dangerous than a slap to the head. I don't condone of the slap, but all fingers of blame should be pointed towards someone, and it ain't Van Gils.

You just say that because Van Gils is a nice Belge talent. If Sam Bennett did the slap you would want a warrant out for his arrest

10 UCI points fine is a bit hefty. That's more than Chris Froome's entire points total.

I was thinking this 10 points thing mustve been a mistake from GCN right? 100 sounds about right as Bonifazio got that for supposedly hitting someone in the Giro.
