Don't know about the latter, I've seen him do very well in cold, rainy conditions. Bit of a stereotype, but he used to be a CX rider too.

Vauquelin is perfectly suited for these kind of efforts. He starting transition to become a GC rider rather than just an ITT'er two years ago, but we still have no idea how he fares on long, >40 minute effort climbs. We were supposed to find out in Paris - Nice, but then he crashed. Thyon 2000 it is then.
