We're a couple of days into the Tour du Maroc now, but the GC has already been torn to shreds. The first stage was a fairly flat trek towards the north, but the second was up and down all day on a hilly coastal route and the result was utter carnage.

Only 20 riders made it in inside half an hour, the autobus came in at 40 minutes, and the last group arrived some 51 minutes behind Perget, who at 28 still has plenty left in the tank and has spent the last few years in the World Tour for Caisse d'Epargne and Ag2r. The huge timegaps should make it fairly easy for CMI to allow non-threatening breaks to go for much of the rest of the race!

Today's stage was annulled due to bad weather, so I wonder if that came into it on Saturday's stage as well.

Reaction from Herklotz: "Before the last climb I was around fifth position, that climb was 2km with 14%!!! When we went downhill I attacked alone, it was a hard and technical descent. The last 4km of the race were flat so the other two pursuers worked together and we had a sprint with 3. They just beat me and my result was a 2nd place."

He ended the race bleeding on his face and leg.
