As far as I can tell from Procyclingstats, the first time Rebellin finished in the top ten on GC in a professional race was in the 1993 Tirreno-Adriatico, where he finished 5th. Races near the Adriatic Sea seem to suit him well.

Of the nine riders who finished ahead of Rebellin in Adriatica Ionica this year, only one of them (Sepulveda) had been born at the time of the 1993 Tirreno.

Argentin should teach Vegni how to pick the right side of a climb, just look at that side of the Grappa and compare it with the one climbed in the final mountain stage of the 2017 Giro, with this one in the race Dumoulin would have cracked for good far from the finish leading to a totally different race compared to the dull stage we actually had...

And there are even harder sides of the Monte Grappa. With a small detour they could have climbed Monte Grappa from the same side as they did in the 2017 Giro, but you have a super steep section earlier on the climb, with 500m at 19.5%:

Not to mention the things that you can do with the Strada degli Alpini and Salto della Capra, those sides of Monte Grappa are Zoncolan level climbs.

It's almost identical but the Madeleine isn't glorified like the other two, probably because it could be linked up to other great climbs to make a real mountain stage and that conflicts with the Tour recent times spirit of doing only crap mountain stages. Just image putting Madeleine as penultimate climb with a finish like Valmorel to have an hard climb/easy climb combo after riding Izoard and Galibier (the sadistic me would even throw in Vars at the start to go to 250 kms :cool:).

Galibier and Croix de Fer from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne before Madeleine would also be a nice combination.

Of the "classic" Tour climbs, I'd say the Madeleine is just about the most popular with traceurs. Not all that often used as "the" climb, not often used as a solution in and of itself, excellent connectivity to so many major climbs, multiple sides all of which are HC, and tough enough that it can be a focal climb if required to be "the" climb in a queen stage too.

On the bright side he might get a chance to ride for himself at the Vuelta.

Ayuso already one of the 3 strongest riders on the final climb, wow.
Moscon is getting better, the NC was his first race after an altitude camp on the Stelvio with Ganna.
Carboni someone his always at his best after riding the Giro, I don't know if the guys at Bardiani get his prep right.
Rebellin finished 12th against a decent field, less than 2 months before turning 50, wow!

Also, the final climb is a lot harder than it looks on paper, it's an irregular climb.
