Hampsten has two 4th places in the Tour as well as the Maillot Blanc from 86, one of the most bitterly fought Tours in memory. He also won the 88 Giro taking the Mountains title in the process, not to mention two stages along the way.

Leipheimer has two stages of the Tour, a TT in 2007 and the TTT in 2009. How on earth can that cancel out an Alpe d'Huez road win? Yes he got on the podium, once. He hasn't won a single GT, nor any real stages.

Leipheimer did win the Tour de Suisse in 2007, but Hampsten won it twice, back to back.FFS!!!

I don't understand. Leipheimer won the 2006 dauphine if that is what you mean and he also won the 2011 tour de suisse if that is what you meant. Of course winning those two is more prestigious than winning tds twice

Hadn't seen this before actually, quite funny to see Ciolek in 9th ahead of Greipel in 11th for 2012. Clearly, one second place (and no other top 5s) is better than 4 victories!

I would definitely put Hampsten above Leipheimer as well.

Being 4th best US rider is hardly amazing stuff either. Ironically, if Leipheimer was Irish, he would still only be 3rd best and compare the size of the two countries, lol.

aren't you the old hypocrite merckx fanboy that keeps ignoring the fact that since 1895 almost every cyclist doped (even if not as much as eddy) and today you irrationally choose your list of favorites as well as your list of bad guys while admiring the "dirty glories" of the past?

also, aren't you the old hypocrite that can't live with the fact that today's top riders are all better athletes (especially the likes of indurain, lance, alberto) and would beat your irrationally chosen legend at the biggest races not only because cycling became truly "pro" (and not former farmer's contest... just go forward) but also because they are simply better?

one thing is clear, maybe lance is the only "great" that is more hypocrite than eddy, but if eddy still deserves to be seen as legend and not a joke, so deserves lance.

Like Heras for the vuelta 2005. A spanish judge cancelled his condamnation in 2011. There is a important probabity for him to be the only 4-time Vuelta champion again in 2012.

Crossing the line in first place makes you a winner.

Kloden will never get count for that stuff . Like the other guy said(sorry I forget your name) "On May 25 2007 he admitted that he placed first in the Tour de France using banned substances, and he was no longer considered the winner by the tour's organizers.[2] In July 2008 he is back on the list of Tour winners, but with additional notes about his use of doping"
