I liked the change in route design already when it's been published, and I like it even more now.
Expands the contenders' field as well as tactical possibilities.
Whether it'll do the wonders to racing or not depends on the pack. Should be fun, anyway.

It would make perfect sense if Roche and then Dimoulin tried to reel Fuglsang in and set Bling up for the sprint but Roche is not riding.

For whatever reason, Nico’s never had the record in this race that his oul’ lad had. Or his cousin, obv.

I really like Kwiatkowski. It was just his lack of positioning at Amstel that stopped him going with the Alaphilippe and Fuglsang move and he was very powerful thereafter. This has been his spring target all along and I expect him to be even stronger this week (also a week further removed from his crash).

But there are many many possibilities. If Dumoulin is indeed fully committed for Matthews then he has a great chance ... Bora have many strong options ... Yates, Fuglsang and Bardet might be the strongest on the climbs but aren't fast in a sprint ... and of course Alaphilippe, although he is way too short in the betting etc etc

Kwiatkowski at FW was a rare sight. I usually consider him one of the smartest riders in the peloton. When he wins it is not often because he is the strongest but he knows exactly where to be and when to attack. In E3 and Sen Remo he "used" Sagan perfectly and his World Championships attack on the descent caught everybody off guard. Okay, his victory at Amstel a few years ago was stunning when he won the sprint from way back but more often than not he outsmarts his opponents rather than overpowering them. Anyway, I really like the dude and hope he does well!

He outsmarted his opponents at Amstel too, started his sprint earlier, came from behind, using slipstreams all the way, I doubt he was the strongest there, but surely the smartest. He has a good chance today, if he somes to the finish in the front group, he's my favorite.

But yes, generally he makes the right moves and is super versatile.

Everybody makes mistakes, besides Kwiats ssprint is never best after a long hard race, while Gilbert has a great sprint after a hard race.

UAE have cards to play with. Ulissi seem to be in form. Henao and Costa too. They also have Pogacar.

Martin could still be good I think. Maybe he just downplaying himself a bit because he is unsure how it will be go. He might still be good. If not, they still have the others that can maybe make a result.

If you've just been ill, 6 hours of riding in wet and cold conditions is not really going to help you recover.
