I feel sorry for Andy all I can say but the Tour is coming and that's way more significant. Sadly, Andy's real Vuelta participation costs too much. Organizers will never afford it.. And Vuelta doesn't match the Legend by the level of contention surely.

Unless I'm missing something, his participation is costs the organizers nothing. He either shows up to earn his salary as a professional cyclist (he is not, a professional cyclist of the Tour de France and Ardennes Classics) or he doesn't. He won't show up at the Vuelta this year because he will get embarrassed. :D

More likely that he will come to the US and race the US Pro-Tour Challenge (or whatever the new race in Colorado is called) since it will be more meaningful to the team's sponsors.

How many beers does he cost?
Perhaps they can get San Miguel to sponsor him to make a real ale effort?:rolleyes:
(I take it you don't want to see his butt kicked by Bertie, again)

The Horner cloud gets a bit of a silver lining for his supporters.

1 Transfer of the Vuelta to France;
2 Gathering all the best riders;
3 Providing the race throughout the whole route by the appropriate number of fans;
4 Providing the race by the Tour attributes;
5 Rebranding and renaming the Vuelta into new Tour and the Tour - into old Vuelta...
...
To be honest, I have difficulty with calclulating precise costs.

So now that Andy is out, is Bruyneel going to reconsider Horner?!?!

They don't have much else on their team that can climb all day like that guy..a few, but not many. Plus even if he is working for Frank, Horner can pace him a great deal on the big climbs.

The real reason...

Andreas Klöden on Twitter...50 min ago !

"If you want to race as a team.You have to stay together,race together...
Not only one time (Race) in the Year.You have to work together....."

Is Kloken referring to himself in the third person with that tweet?

That is one of the odd things of this week - why announce a short list for the Tour when your No 1 rider is apparently injured enough that requires further x-rays?
Does anyone know was that brought up at the press conference?

But regarding Horner, I was surprised he missed the initial short list, but when he wasn't racing DL or Suisse he was unlikely to be selected for the Tour.

From Velonews Bruyneel Clarity article: "Bruyneel said he wanted riders in those races in order to hone their form ahead of the Tour as well as to demonstrate they were up to the task of carrying the team colors for three weeks in the season’s most important race."

ride into form bkla bla yea ok we get that but....Demonstrate they were up to the task of carrying the team colors for 3 weeks????

wtf does that mean other than to suggest insubordination.

I really doubt Klodi sent those tweets on his own, he's not the I type.

Bruahaha. Klödi always mocks in his tweets against the BDR, he is confrontative against the german media and strictly boycotting them since years.
I don't know your definition of confrontational, but under mine Hilde definetely is.
Your conspiracy theory is ridiculous

I was talking about teammates. I'm aware of his riff against the BDR. Show us examples of confrontation with teammates perhaps to support your point? It's not a conspiracy, it's typical Bruyneel MO.

Terrible news about Andy... yes, his form has been off, but he still deserved to ride the Tour for obvious reasons. If he continued to be that off form, it would show on the road and that would be that. Now he'll not get that chance.

It's even more insane to leave Horner out of the lineup now.

I can't see Bruyneel asking Horner to race now.

I'm not part of the team so I can't tell who is confrontional in their intern relationships and who's not and I guess neither can you. So this is all about speculation.

The timing is so odd....like Bruyneel didn't know that Andy prolly would not be racing??
.....and now has announced Horner not in so won't recant his decision or look stupid so it makes one wonder about the way his mind works.:confused:

He's not in control. He's not talking to his riders. He's no idea of WTF is going on from minute to minute.

He really is starting to look inept.

If I am Becca, he's gone.

Klöden made remarks to the press about the Schlecks' ineffectual teamwork back when the merger was formalized. So not that out of character.

Team Radio-Schleck is my new favorite team. They've provided hours of entertainment this year.

Almost always when there is no actual road racing going on.;)

Andy and Horner to take on Contador at the Vuelta.
Maybe a blessing in disguise, given all those uphill finishes and no century of clock kms.
I'm looking forward to the Spanish race more than the French carnival.

Yes, total lack of communication....and the fact that Kim Andersen is also out of Andy's (and Frank's) loop --or WAS--makes the whole concept of a team just a complete farce.

Becca ....I wonder who HE is talking to? :confused:
He seemed to be out of a role anyway except for the money end of it all ..

sinking ship

Becca out Riis In?

http://cyclismas.com/2012/04/becca-gives-bruyneel-final-ultimatum-begins-negotiations-with-riis/

“Considering Riis‘ situation with SaxoBank at the moment, I have reached out to Bjarne to see if he’d like to join our fold. The poor man is in a similar situation to Johan’s last year. Hopefully I’ll be able to negotiate a better deal with Bjarne as he is someone who has a proven track record to create winners from multiple athletes, rather than just one,” concluded Becca.

funny stuff those guys write
