Sorry, vegans: Eating meat and cooking food is how humans got their big brains

"...It would have been biologically implausible for humans to evolve such a large brain on a raw, vegan diet and that meat-eating was a crucial element of human evolution at least a million years before the dawn of humankind...."

Vegetarianism (and, moreso, veganism) is stepping off the evolutionary train. Maybe you don't care but your microcephalic g-g-g-grandchildren will. Or maybe they won't, being as they're microcephalic.

I might go have myself a hot dog now then. Make me smarter fo sure!

I have even started feeding the rainbow lorikeets some meat and now they have gotten so smart I employ em to clean my bike each week for 5$. Them silly rainbow lorikeets that are just eating raw plant food lol! I also tried it with kangaroo and horses and it worked a treat. I now have them take care of my emails and social media updates.

Try feeding your cats and dogs a meat based diet. Make sure its cooked. You can tell vegan cats and dogs cos they just sit, bark or run around in circles and play with balls vs ipads.

Ive been vegan for 11 years now. Look how weak I am on the bike. Look at my Strava KOM's. Im not even getting top 20 on any decent climbs. I had to make some strava segments in my carport. That way I get to keep em and they are easy to get.

Im really lacking energy on my vegan diet. Anyone who has trained with me or been dropped by me can vouch for that.

It is a flawed theory. It uses gorillas as an example of herbivore not developing (even though it has been found gorillas can and have eaten meat) and that some of our closer relatives eat plenty of meat (chimps and other similar species). Not to mention all those other species which eat plenty of meat...

If you want evidence of what would hamper brain function in a species speak to someone who is on the Atkins diet or a body builder "cutting" for a comp, near zero carbs, ketogenesis is a poor fuel for the brain.

One theory I read was it was agriculture which allowed the rapid development of the brain - our brains love carbs and the ready supply and time to use this development allowed modern culture to arise. The theory holds some water given the rapid acceleration of technological developmemt in such a exceptional short period of time. Downside was greater disease and degeneration of our physical side. Just another theory.

Your wrong Tapeworm. Bodybuilders during the cutting phase and cyclists bonking on a long climb are perfect examples of heightened mental lucidity. Ketosis is the natural state of humans. I put out more watts per kg when Im in ketosis. I drink olive oil and lard smoothies for peak performance.

Dr Fatkins was a smart guy. Its a myth he died at 258lbs and had a heart attack a fews prior. Atkins was actually in prime condition and very trim for his age.

Giant are over priced bikes with a short warranty and rely on product image to sell bikes.

Colnago are great value bikes with lifetime warranty and rely on extensive testing/R&D to sell bikes.

42km is a long way to run on carbs. Thats why now race organisers at the NYC marathon etc are not handing out bananas, gels, sugar drinks anymore. They will be handing out steak and cups of melted lard to help people avoid breaking down the muscle and burning thru too much body fat.

Carbs turn to sugar, sugar turns to fat.
Fat turns to muscle.
Same with protein. Eat 400g of protein or fat and its pure muscle you will wake up with the next day.

I4m not going to bother to read all of the posts,but I've read some of the latest and the first.I fully support your choice and it's obvious your diet works well,even with sports.

But you should not try to convince other people to become vegetarians.

I know everyone here knows it but still:
"Humans are omnivorous, capable of consuming a wide variety of plant and animal material."

Ha Ha, friend sent this link to me, never looked in this thread before, very funny.

What a load of self serving drival. There is a word for people that stalk Pro rides and ride onto the back of them and pretend they are showing them climbs or training with them. Ha Ha

Strava records are for young riders or weekend warriors. 8.30 is ok but 7.40 is not close to the record. The Strava record holder is not an ''Olympian'' but a talented Junior rider that was not a gun climber 2 years ago either, good climber now but would be dropped like a hot potato by a top Pro climber.

I see DR as a guy who is passionate about his life .

If something about it rubs me the wrong way ... hey .. it's my rub. MINE. Pointing the finger at what he does that I think is BS .... hark ... is MY BS I'm telling myself.

So .... cuttin' him down .. or anyone .... is but cuttin' myself down.

Why do I want to do that to myself ? I catch myself in the act of "cutting down" often ... and it's quite humbling.... and yet absolutely freeing too. Knowing I AM the master of MY Life . No One Else .

~~~This~~~ Is My Passion :)
I have no problem with DR's passions, but I do have problems with his BS. He is obviously a gifted athlete and the vegan diet and lifestyle works well for him. Good on him for that. But his lack of knowledge and tolerance of diets and lifestyles and athletic abilities that differ from his is particularly galling, especially when the evidence he presents is so substandard. I have not intended to cut him down, but rather the evidence he presents.
That's right. DR's passion is great, he's enthusiastic about his lifestyle, his athletic performance and spreads the word.
It's the shamelessness of his self promotion and constant assumptions that gets people riled. Anyone coming on here stating things like "I can drop anyone on this forum" knowing full well that pros post here regularly is always going to get some flack thrown their way.
man oh man
I spend some quality time out in the real world and when I get back here.... BANANA Man! His theme song, going over an over in my ears...
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any guy who isn't me tonight.
I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.
See the pretty guy in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive guy be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy
check it out man
I guess its too much to expect him to go away, since this kind of scammy stuff is how he and Boobsalot make their $$.
ROFLMAO, ha, ha! :D
Durianrider says he's done nearly 1,100 miles in the last wk. in some Strava challenge. Looks fried. Can hardly talk. Not surprised:
Strava needs some moderation.
Gotta burn those carbs, otherwise would soon hit 500lbs eating several crates of bananas a day. Watts/kg wouldn't be good. Not a chance keeping up with Eros Capecchi and his aero hairdo otherwise! But still great to keep up with those guys before his latest expedition, LOL.
durainrider is the man. and i cant wait until he hits the big 50 when just one bagel puts him above his deficit regardless of intensity.
So I won the Strava Base Mile Challenge for 2013. Rode a GPS certified 6190km for the month of Jan. Even 2nd and 3rd place couldnt keep up with vegan boy despite uploading 'manual entries' aka rides that can't be verified.
'Hey I use a Garmin but today I don't for some reason and will just manually enter a ride so vegan boy doesnt win..'.
Tsk tsk!
How does a 'protein deficient vegan' ride more than 46 000 other competitors?
Yeah I live in Radelaide and its literally the BEST cycling grounds on earth but no other Radelaide rider hit the top 50 did they?
2 vegans were in the top 5 though. No 'manual entries' from either of us. Just 100% GPS verified entries.
Dude have mad respect for you
However you could make the same argument about a pure pro lard diet with the calorie deficit you maintain in your activities.
just sayn
spanking grunt pro team journeymen bottle carriers and neo pros on their training ride is pure awesomeness and frankly the only reason to own a gopro give us more of that for sure
I hear you point but just look at how many miles I do on strava during the year yet how lean I am in my youtube vids all year long. Its not the calories, its what those calories are made off. I pick foods LOW on the insulin index list. High carb LOW FAT LOW PROTEIN plant foods create the slim body longterm REGARDLESS of physical out put. Just go visit SE Asia, Africa, India etc where nobody is doing threshold efforts or even knows what watts per kg is etc.
Then get those people and put em on the high insulin index foods like animal products 3x a day and watch em blow out. Same with cyclists that get injured but are eating the wrong stuff. Put em on the Durianrider clean n mean diet and watch em hit TDF bodyweights over time.
Doesnt happen overnight BUT like fitness, it DOES happen with consistent effort.
Besides, who wants to eat a diet with no pasta, rice, fruit, sugar etc? Certainly not me. I like feeling lean and fast on the bike with no stimulants required. I like having relatively high watts per kg regardless of how much training Im doing. I eat to stay light. I train to be fast. Does that make sense?
Training = fitness.
Eating right = slim.
Combine the 2 for the best of both worlds for life.
