Seems like 30 Bananas a day is a bit like a cult.

I found this more interesting: http://letthemeatmeat.com/post/3484206816/interview-with-an-ex-vegan-erim-bilgin

....
Crikey! They even talk about Durian over there. :D It seems as though he's managed to do some serious internet 'permeating':

by DougF:
"I love the pictures durianrider posts of himself. He has the body of an anorexic, prepubescent little girl. Also, is it just me or are the LFRV followers the nastiest looking people on earth? Is it a rule that you have to stop grooming yourself when following the LFRV lifestyle?
"

OH MY GORD!! '30 Bananas a Day' is a real thing?!?!?! :p I thought it was a joke!! What a bunch of whack-jobs
roflmao.gif

And how's the way he's added about 5kg of muscle to his pecs in his cartoon?!?:

Nah, this part is even better and more appropriate for the manner he behaves here:
I don’t consider myself an “opponent” of Durianrider, mostly because I don’t care too much about what he thinks. But yes, it is true that he has that reputation of finding rather ridiculous ways of brushing inconvenient things under the rug.

There are some great comments in there following the interview. For example :

"..Love that 'apple man' is now shunned by 'banana man', it is just how it works. I have not gotten death threats but have been told my new way of eating will kill me and that I am "playing with fire' by drinking milk etc etc etc. I say Eat and Let Eat...."

or this:

"...30BAD basically gave me an eating disorder. Maybe I was already preoccupied with food and that's what led me to delve so deep into veganism, but 30BaD just pushed me over the line. I can't believe I wasted so much money and time. Not to mention the fact that I completely embarassed myself preaching to friends and family about how LFRV is the only way, cooked food is evil, meat will kill you etc etc, and yet I was much more unhealthy than any of them, following LFRV right to the letter."

Yeah, I stumbled across the apple guy's site today. It seems as though even his (durian's) fellow vegans have had enough of him. There's some funny comments on those sites under the articles. :p

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/who-should-and-shouldnt-try-fasting/ :

Dave wrote:
"Its Harley “durianrider” Johnstone that are running the “TheRawvoice” on Youtube. Really annoying vegan guy :\

Shawn wrote:
This guy is a complete tool. He hates everyone that doesn’t attempt to OD on bananas every single day. He even trolls raw vegans. lol

Jen wrote:
He shouldn’t be able to make those statements and get away with it. DeVany and Mark could potentially have their reputations harmed by this guy’s BS.

Bobby wrote:

Sue wrote:

This morning I chose to remove Durian Rider from GI2MR (Give It To Me Raw). If you've been here for long, you know that we've had a few incidents with DR on GI2MR. If you ask DR rider about these incidents, he'll say that we have something against his '80-10-10' (80% carbs, 10% protein and 10% fat). That couldn't be further from the truth. I regularly recommend the online community 30 Bananas a Day (which DR and Freela started) to people who want more info on 80-10-10. In fact, when Freela was first setting up the 30 Bananas A Day community, she asked me for advice on building communities, and I gladly helped.

So, this isn't some sort of "raw conspiracy", even though I have a feeling DR will try to make it sound that way. So, what is this about? This is about being a nice, decent human being, and being respectful to others.

DR, especially in the last 2 weeks, has repeatedly attacked members of this community with his "80-10-10 or die" message. To spread what he is up to, he puts others down. That's his style and that's fine, but it doesn't work for us at Gi2MR anymore.

In his mind, DR thinks he is being "revolutionary" and "uncompromising", but his mentor, Dr Doug Graham, who is a friend of mine, would never act the way DR is acting, by putting others down to lift his message up.

As an example: In a recent posting about Anthony Anderson, the Raw model, durian wrote: "look at that pic of anthony 'crying' with his 10k$ perfect white teeth.....poor anthony had to 'resort' to eating animal products cos he couldnt imagine victoria boutenko in a bathing suit.."

Ask yourself, "Would you want to be friends with this guy?"
Not me and not many others at GI2MR. So, DR, it's time to go.

Here is another gem:

"... duriander is a nut job... and a self admitted former drug addict who lately seems to have gone back to the drugs based on his paranoid posts, but the people on the site just eat us his crazy ...
these people are determined to be happy and enlightened no matter how miserable and crazy it makes them

all your humanistic ideological moral hogwash aside, his posts are some of the most entertaining here.

as wack as he is however he doesn't attack the person when posting like some of y'all do whenever you disagree with something. and he seems to be having a lot of fun a lot of the time on his bike

which is refreshing compared to all the fanboys posting in the procycling forum who dont even ride a bike

For some reason DR's paranoia does not surprise me. Stuff like this is gold: “this ‘Apple-Man’ character is obviously an agent for the meat industry trying to bring down the movement from the inside”

It is interesting that in the comments they hypothesize that DR's super low fat intake is causing a mental imbalance and they include support links.

Lets be clear though - I think the vast majority of people who have had issues with DurianRider (such as myself) have no problem at all with Veganism and vegans in general - it is DurianRider and his delivery that they have problems with.

Lets try to keep that distinction clear.

Very probably.

http://www.wanderings.net/notebook/Main/WhyTheLowFatDietIsStupidAndPotentiallyDangerousAnthonyColpo

"Nature's Anti-Depressant: Fat!
Feeling moody? Irritable? Always snapping at your kids for no good reason? If so, eating a low-fat diet isn't going to help the situation. In 1998, U.K. researchers reported the results of an important experiment involving twenty healthy male and female volunteers. One group was placed on a 41% fat diet, while the other group consumed a 25% fat diet...... ........The study was tightly-controlled and adherence to the diets appears to have been high. HDL cholesterol levels declined during the low-fat period, a typical response on low-fat, high-carb diets, indicating that subjects ate the foods as supplied.

The researchers found that, while ratings of anger-hostility slightly declined during the high-fat diet period, they significantly increased during the low-fat, high-carb diet period...... ........Ratings of depression declined slightly during the high-fat period, but increased during the low-fat, high-carb period, mainly due to two of the low-fat subjects reporting significantly greater depression-dejection ratings.

What is particularly alarming about this study is that the low-fat diet produced these symptoms in mentally healthy subjects. .,.........Low-fat diets should be approached with extreme caution by those with a history of depression, anxiety, overly aggressive behavior or mental illness. Such individuals may be especially vulnerable to the nutritional inadequacies of low-fat diets.

Low-Fat Diet Makes Monkeys Go Ape
For almost 2 years, adult male monkeys were fed a "luxury" diet - (43% calories from fat, 0.34 mg cholesterol/Calorie of diet) or a "prudent" diet (30% calories from fat, 0.05 mg cholesterol/Calorie of diet).
Researchers observed that the low-fat diet monkeys were more irritable and initiated more aggression than the "luxury" diet animals.

The prudent diet resulted in lower total serum cholesterol levels, something that our absent-minded health authorities automatically assume is a good thing. The researchers, however, noted: "These results are consistent with studies linking relatively low serum cholesterol concentrations to violent or antisocial behavior in psychiatric and criminal populations and could be relevant to understanding the significant increase in violence-related mortality observed among people assigned to cholesterol-lowering treatment in clinical trials."(
78)"

There's tonnes of other info on the net linking low-fat diets to depression and other mental ailments.
And 'low' is generally considered to be 20 to 25%, so 10% is considered extreme

Its also possible he imports bananas in bulk issue for cash to put into his propaganda purposes. The Meat eaters will be back though despite this setback.

Durian must be tracked down!

From other countries? That's impossible as Australia does not import banana's (and would they, there's enough banana plantations here).

Watch "Fat Head" on Hulu (no link - their server seems to be down right now). A guy loses fat weight on a fast food regimen. It's sort of a anti-Supersize Me documentary that provides scientific evidence and is a good watch in general. If anything it seems to support the Paleo diet concept.

P.S. I didn't read through the whole thread so I don't know if it had been mentioned before.

Not really. Go back and read the thread from the start and you will see why it has ended up looking like it does. That and you can see that as recently as 9th Sep DurianRider was here bumping this thread with more photos of himself

Queensland floods resulted in high Banana prices here and I believe importing from NZ etc was increased. (Somewhere back in this thread is a link to a newspaper interview with Durian that refers to this problem - that their food bill had gone through the roof)

He started a Go Pro thread, for which he was widely lambasted elsewhere on this forum, on 10th September. He's good for a laugh. No use pointing out the flaws in his arguments because he just continues on obliviously like most zealots. Thankfully most of us don't take him as seriously as he takes himself.

Ah OK, Britain gets bananas imported from Costa Rica, the Caribbean Islands and South America in the main.
It figures Australia can grow bananas because of its climate I suppose but I like the West Indian bananas because they are smaller and taste better.
