Ah OK, Britain gets bananas imported from Costa Rica, the Caribbean Islands and South America in the main.
It figures Australia can grow bananas because of its climate I suppose but I like the West Indian bananas because they are smaller and taste better.

There are over a 1000 different types of bananas, and these types are not dependent on the country of origin. Australia does not import bananas, but nor is it a big exporter. The 10 largest banana producing nations are India, Phillipines, China, Ecuador, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Columbia and Thailand.

Cavendish  bananas are the most common in Australia and North America. The burro banana is smaller and has a tangy taste. I think this is what we call Lady Fingers in Australia. I would guess that you are referring to a burro banana. They are yummy!

I had a couple of banana trees in the backyard, the yield was very good.
The Indian banana has massive local demand and don't export it much, and when they do they they are far too expensive.
I didn't like the chiquita though, during my time in Belgium, they were bit too bity and not quite sweet taken from the supermarket
Do you guys get the banana flower in your markets? They make for brilliant vegetable dishes.
General question, does a vegan have dairy products?

A vegan by definition doesn't eat dairy or any animal foods.

A genuine, authentic human being, however, eats whatever they want without labels because they inherently know that such strictness is abhorred by nature.

I remember one guy on DR's website who thought all carnivores should be made to be vegan(by some creepy man made process) ... or destroyed. Talk about F'd up. I say put him and a lion in a room together to talk about it :p

Yes PETA is a ridiculous campaign. If the models want to show their nude body, there are magazines to do it.
That ad was pretty sick of PETA, read it in the paper and there didn't even seem to be an apology.
As a vegetarian myself, I find the pretence stupid. Can't force anyone into something.

So if you eat vegan you won't get attacked by a shark? WTF. Or how about you are in their territory and it can happen, even though it doesn't happen often. And I thought sharks weren't fish.

Cavendish banana? let me guess its short, hairy and has green skin.

Yeah it might be the burro I was referriing to, its smaller and sweeter to taste and usually imported from the Caribbean where I buy them - very nice.

Sharks don't like a lot of bubbles, certain vegan diets increase flatulence: QED.

Having no personal experience with DR, I merely searched online and found the experiences of those who are far more familiar with him than probably anyone here. I think they speak for themselves.

Reading the story of the "apple guy" it seems that this whole thing might be a little more harmful to some than just entertaiuning readers on the cyclingnews forum (not veganism, per se, but the militant branch of veganism).

But I do have one comment on the PETA add with the chick in the bikini with the message that eating meat causes impotemce.
Stupidist thing I have seen in a while online, and that's saying a lot. Must be weird to live in that kind of world where you make up "facts" that you wish were true.

And yes, his GF is quite attractive, but so what..

You read wrong bro. Not enough vitamin C brah? I said 'people say to me 'Harley, lions eat meat so that means we should!' and my reply is 'Are you a lion? Do you eat babies of your own species like lions and chimps do? ALL carnivores eat their own kind in nature and not via forced starvation but via carnivorous instinct.'

Not sure how you got 'lions should be vegan' out of that one brah. But hey, anything to twist the story to put me down I guess.

# You mean like the thousands of testimonials like these?

Hey Harley, just wanted to thank you for all of the great videos. You're such an encouragement. I'm 33 years old and I live in Dallas, TX (USA). I've been 100% LFRV now for 4 months. In that time, I've lost 136 LBS (I think that's about 62 kilos?) so far, gained incredible strength, endurance and energy. -So thankful for 8/1/1 and guys like you who encourage me to keep pressing on.

Please keep those vids coming man!

ricky from texas.

Ever since i began to watch your snippets on youtube, I have found you entertaining, brutally honest, unapologetic, controversial and while I am not gay, I love ya mate! You are just amazing! AND for that, I want to genuinely THANK you! I am doing my best at this time. Jumping into it all raw with my own two feet!? Soon enough mate, and when I do, I will be glad to shake your hand in person!
PS!~~~ and because og YOU, really! I am in absolute head over heels in LOVE with DURIANS!~ I made them my new religion! lmao! Durianrider, you ROCK!! 4REAL!!! Keep doing your thing...people are listening! This is from Toronto Ontario Canada.

G'day Harley,

This is Anne who you met at the FoodCare meeting , then later at rapid
creek markets.I'm one of the ones with CFS .
I didn't wait a week to try the diet , I started immediately . *I
staggered on for two weeks , falling off the wagon every couple of
days because I didn't realise the importance of the leafy greens .
Once the book arrived it started making a lot more sense - me being a
science type .
Suddenly no more cravings .

First my mental alertness improved
Then mental and physical stamina
Then physical strength
And then I realized my moods had improved . *It was easier to feel happy .

It's been bloody brilliant .
Thank you so much Hartley .
At this rate I may be able to deal with the b______s in the housing
association if I become Chair .

I can ride my bike eight times as far as before , and actually put in
effort -What a thrill ! *It's so exciting , and I can do it everyday
(not just twice a week ). *Been feeling so good I went
out and bought a little 50 cc scooter . *It's red and it's fun!

Thankyou for showing me I'm not the only person who tells it like it is. Unfortunately I do not always live it like I should. I've been watching you and some others for awhile now. Several years actually. I allow exscuses to hold me back. It's always been exscuses. Pretty pitiful I know. Thanks for the straight foward talk.
Shannon

Hiya Harley OK, Ive had a few drinks tonight, out of the ordinary ... but I want to tell you that Iove you man. I love your work, I love your passion, love the change you have bought to so many.

I hope that every day from here on ... some random stranger sends you a random message of encouragement to keep up the good work that you do :)

Dont ever let that flame die down.

Best wishes to both you and your totally wonderful soulmate :) Take good care of her, as you take care of yourself.

Love you both very much,
Steve,

Hey Durian i watched your videos, you are inspiration for what you do man, i just cant express enough what people like you do for mankind. It blows me away the kindness and courage it takes to do what people like you do. I just want to give a shout out to you that its great and just thanks, your positivity inspires me and i can guarantee it powers forward other people. Not enough is said for people like you!!
Blessings
Rick

I've also realized that I've been half starving myself most of my adult life and I've 'never' have enuf energy and often have had the low blood sugar shakes (duh)
When you mentioned needing to have enough Glycogen, the penny just dropped for me with my lack of energy etc and also depression over the years (not to mention a contribution to the cancer)
Not thru carb fears but conditioned politeness I suppose but I've always eaten fruit by the piece, not the bucket load, so to realize that I can eat as much as I god damn want to is a revelation for me and since I've been doing this I have not had any shakes and have an increased energy so Thank you I feel excited by this possibility.

It doesnt matter if I got a hot gf. Doesnt make me a better man. Its just that if you eat a certain way, you look a certain way. Freelee eats all the carbs she wants and is a vegan. We dont eat junk and we dont overtrain. We get to bed early, we dont drink **** and we aint done drugs for over 10 years. Just personal choices. We share em daily. We enjoy haters cos it means people are paying attention. ;)

Photo from 2 weeks ago. All you can eat simple sugar diet for the last 5 years.

I gotta say, eating all the carbs you want, getting the early nights gives me the stamina to do whatever I want. World champ needs a tour guide for the day in the hills? No probs. Train Muay Thai in Bangkok at Lumpini? No probs. Bang out sub 36min 10k on 15k a week training? No probs.

Good thing about me is that people can see what I eat, who I am, what I stand for. Im approachable and purposely live that way as I like helping others help themselves.

Oh yeah, high cholesterol levels are healthy. Humans DONT produce cholesterol so we need to eat animals to get it. I ride my bike backwards so when you crash, you land on your feet easier. Hey, Ive got an old carbon fork that I drilled some holes in to make it lighter? You want to buy it? Doesnt fit my new bike. 600$ if your keen. Its been 'tuned' so is worth more.

what good work? Turning even more people away from a vegan lifestyle and being the epitome of the smug, self-important, self-righteous a-hole that already is the stereotype for vegans?

Ahhhhh the master is back.

To be honest, he is my secret biggest attraction of the CN forum, followed by the clinic.
But would never doubt or question him, since he rode with Lance. :D
Personally, I shut down my meat and egg consume to minimum level, which is now close to zero.
Just because I like animals. Fish-fingers and fishing myself ( mainly pike-perch) is somehow keeping me alive.

Like clockwork .... after 30 daze for being a bad vegan .... our Harley is back !

Yeah ... it's a like to dislike for me too. You're a nut Harley ... but in a good way. Hey, we're all human.

Why do we even have words such as vegan or vegetarian ? So silly. Look at me ... this is what I eat ! Huh? Is this the new Hollywood ? The new big thing ?

Nah .... just the latest label we use to make ourselves appear bigger or smaller than another. They're all comical . . . but life is supposed to be funny ! It's okay Vegans make of fun of meat eating toxic waste consuming people .. . . because they're talking out their b-hole. It's okay that we make of fun of vegans too, for their holier than though preach a minute speeches of eating the flesh of nature! Yeah . . . . it's all good. We're all talking out of our b-hole a bit. . . . and the joke's on everyone !

Life didn't come with a how-to manual. All of the "I'm right, you're wrong " attitudes are full of crappola. . . . but it's funny crappola ! Everyone does what they want to do because that's their damn right. ... uuhhh ! Somehow the earth still goes round and round and the sun still rises.

the only qualification I have for a thread, post or user is : Is it, are they, readable? and this is certainly readable. I'll leave the personality and morality policing based on second hand information to y'all.

this one is indeed readable, unlike many of the stoic empirical evidence humping pure posters telling each other how great they are and reminding us they were here first all the darn time.

What are CN forum members tips for people wanting to keep the body blubber off and or reduce it?

For me, Ive found my diet has been the biggest factor. Sure ECA stackers and other stimulants work short term and at a sacrifice of long term health (hence why so many top athletes eventually chub right out ) but what have you's found as a longterm, healthy, sane and smart choices to maintain trim and fit longterm?

Please share your experiences this is mine.

Im 33, 6ft and 65kg plus or minus 10% and been that weight range for the last decade. It just depends if Im doing more bike racing or kick boxing etc.

As a personal trainer with my main focus on weight loss for my clients, I can honestly say that dieting NEVER works longterm. Sure anyone can starve for a bit but it never works lonterm. Even anorexics that dont die, mostly blow out in the end.

So what works in this western world where 70% of us are overweight? Time and time again we have proven that calories are not calories. Its not as simple as energy in, energy out. If you eat 4000cals a day from fast food you aint gonna look, feel and perform as good if you ate 4000cals a day from a low fat, high carb plant strong wholefoods diet? Everyone knows that but everyone forgets that unfortunately.

My advice to you would be to eat as much of your fav wholefood carbs as you care for. Cut out the oil, animal products and greasy foods that just add 'weight' to the body. You wont find a sumo wrestler that is on a low fat, high carb vegan diet!! Maybe thats a youtube vid I can do sometime..me spreading my plant strong propoganda to some sumo wrestlers that are laughing me out of the training den..

*Eat over 10g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per day.*Keep your fat & protein intake under 10% of total calories.

*Count your calories SO you get enough and dont starve yourself all the way to KFC or the steak house. If you want to be fit and trim for the rest of your life then you need to exercise and last time I heard, exercise burns up a lot of glycogen! So carb up and count them calories just like you count the litres of petrol in your car so you can go the distance..

*Drink enough water each day so your urine is clear. If its yellow or straw, you need to drink more. Aim for at least 10times a day clear urination and a few times a night. Get a fruit juice bottle and wee into that. Thats what the 'pros' do.

*Eat a low sodium diet. Its ironic that the people that cramp the most are the ones that eat the most sodium in their diet...just get any average jim or jane out on a hot day and they are cramps on wheels wait'n to happen.

Now just watch the body blubber and salt retention just melt away from your high carb, low fat healthy diet that ramps up the metabolism and helps you stay motivated for exercise as your glycogen stores are stocked each day. Nothing kills motivation quicker than dehydration and glucose exhaustion..

Remember the more fat we have, the less hydrated we will be as fat requires way less water than muscle. So if we are over fat, we are dehydrated for sure. Be easy on yourself and have big health plant strong feasts each day. Hungry people are low standards people when it comes to what they will shove in their gob.

Sure everyone knows the person that 'eats whatever' but behind closed doors they are on the edge or breakdown sadly. Look at all the longterm health and fitness freaks out there..they are always healthy diet focused..

What we eat is what we are..eat the best to feel the best and eat more to live more.

Your a big guy and trying to eat weight watchers junk will not work. Big wholefood carbs feeds each meal of your fav choices.

Read books by Dr McDougall for great simple tasty recipie and the medical science behind it. Dr Esselstyn has a book called 'heart attack proof' and his son Rip Esselstyn (http://www.engine2diet.com) also worked with Lance to help get him back to health. The solution is simple, so simple that many are shocked at the answer.

The fat we eat is the fat we wear and the carbs we eat is the glycogen we get to stay fit with..just look at how fat and unfit our carb phobic society is...

I know hundreds of people personally that have tried to cut back on the carbs and just lost all motivation for a longterm fitness lifestyle and just blown out big time. I know guys with ripped abs turn into beer guts and the hottest fit chicks become fat and frumpy. Its sad to see. Carb phobia doesnt work longterm but high carb, low fat plant strong eating habits do..

I walk my talk, I stay trim and fit all year round with no stimulants, appetite suppresants, crash diets or other techniques that some of my industry peers unfortunately must do cos their dietary choices fail em.

No you can't persuade me. Each to his own. I'm O blood grouo, not A. If you are an 'A' then Vegan may be OK for you, but not for me.
