Well now that there is a BS statement. Are you implying Cav doesn't like 'racing'?

FFS. Ride to your strenghts and you win. Ride for fun and you dont. Simple.

You just have to look at how many riders dont ride to their stregths. Hello Rabobank, hello Hoogerland.

I like to watch Hoogerland race but he doesn't win anything, oh yeah he likes racing, just not to win. I dont think so.

With racing I mean actual racing. Attacking, working together with your compagnon to stay away, reacting on attacks, causing echelons in the peloton, etc

He doesn't like to sit in the peloton all day like you assume

You're the only one making stuff up here. Well how's that for a BS statement?

The guy is a winner. World Champ. Green Jersey holder. Be ashamed and show some respect.

Being a winner doesn't give an athlete the freedom to ride wrecklessly, occasionally be a jerk and he will consequently get criticized for it. We can respect his talent and at the same time question his judgement, methods and tactics.
He's a public figure who doesn't hide from the limelight and with that comes the intense focus on his actions.

Exactly. The world RR course was a joke. It is shameful that someone who has never stuck his nose in the wind is prancing around in the world champ stripes.

The new bromance.

You tw_ts are talking about someone whose made it through Tours De France, won the Green Jersey, won Milan San Remo (he didn't wait for a lead out/wheel there did he? I think that qualifies as sticking his nose in the wind. Maybe you never saw stage three of the 2009 Tour de France or every HTC TTT? Oh no, I forgot you pair need to get to specsavers) not someone who won stages then pulled out before the going got tough.

When have you ever turned pedals yourselves? What have you pair done in the sport? Show me some of your pics from when you've attended professional bike races/won bike races. My guess is you are both Johnny come latelys to the sport. Probably got all the latest Assos gear and carbon road rigs and wobble all over the road, looking for an opportunity to over take a mountain biker with your noses in the air. Cos if you aren't like that you wouldn't be on here talking boll_cks.

Boonen is not going to 'actually race' if it will cost him a win.

Cavendish is racing to his strengths, which he has not done too badly with and I am sure he has done some 'actual racing' because you do not make it to the pro peleton with out 'actual racing' your way up there.

You're first comment was BS. In this one you explained it and I see the point, but from your first comment there it was BS to me as well, but I agree with what you're saying, although Cav plays to his strengths and is a great rider, can't see why people bash him so much.

con·de·scend·ing
adj.
Displaying a patronizingly superior attitude: "The independent investor's desire to play individual stocks may well worry some market veterans, but that smacks a little of Wall Street's usual condescending attitude toward small investors" (Tom Petruno).

Yes that describes accurately what it looks like from the perspective of a mountain bike when condescending equipment freaks ride past.

Sorry chum, but choosing that quotation is worrying.....

Anyway,

If the question is "is Cav an annoying runt?" The answer is obvious.

If the question is "is he a good sprinter?" the answer is equally obvious.

If the question is "is he a good cyclist and a worthy wearer of the rainbow stripes?" the answer is.....depends on what you like about cycling.

Ah, the direct challenge to display one's sporting credentials as a prerequisite to talk about it.

Michel Wuyts has never turned a pedal in anger. I would hold stock in his opinions over those of many hobby cyclists and lower category racers.

It's very easy to lie over the internet. I take it from your response that you have attended professional bike races? Congratulations. It makes you the same as almost every poster here who lives in a location where that's actually a feasible eventuality. And you've won bike races? Well, that's just fine and dandy. Obviously it must be at a pretty high level too, since most weekend warriors wouldn't want to risk getting upstaged by the people they challenge.

You seem to be getting a bit too personal in the ad hominems lately. Don't take it all so seriously. Cavendish is a great racer. But he can also be a ******. It's okay, being one doesn't preclude the other. And just because he's a great racer who can do some wonderful things doesn't mean he shouldn't be called out when he's a ****** either.

His palmares answer that question.

His manner and style of winning are not to lots of peoples tastes, mine included but the WRR is just one race that has more importance unjustifiably placed on it. Plenty have won the jersey but were never the best cyclist in the world of that year or ever! Cav had a pretty damn good year by anyone's standards.

Cav has his own wiki page just for his wins. Not bad. Probably the highest earner in the peloton and not for winning 1 race a year ;)

He's not the highest earner in the peloton. And the only reason he has a different wiki page for his victories is because someone decided to do that... He's not even the guy with the most wins in today's peloton.

There are likely contributors to Cav's wiki in this thread.

Yeah, but you were implying that was because of his "insane" amount of wins which isn't true.

1) Alessandro Petacchi
2) Robbie Mcewen
3) Tom Boonen

I bet they don't have a separate page for their victories because quite frankly that's stupid.

why would you look on wiki for rider information? there are way better websites that have more complete results as well

And how old are they?! Boonen is at least 5 yrs older, Petacchi and McEwen 10 or 12! Come on lad, repeat after me: Mark Cavendish is a phenomenon!

Clearly to have an extra wiki page you must be pretty special. And he's still only 26. By the time he's the age of Boonen, let alone Petacchi or McEwen, he will probably need yet another page.

Yeah! And this page would be about 50,000 pages long! The same folk will still be nit picking..

So that's 3 within few days to make the 'what have you done yourself bla bla bla" which has no relevance what so ever.

Cavendish will never have Boonen's palmares.

Who says Cav will win green jersey again now Kittel is there? You do realize they're both tied in amount of green jerseys right?

I don't think anyone would place Cavendish over Boonen anyway

I'm comparing two sprinters with each other. One of them just isn't a one trick pony as evidenced by his world championship victory where only 23 riders made it in the same time at the finish line.
