His 8th place at tdf in 2024 was 26 minutes down

But the 4th place was almost 20 minutes down... He is probably not a future GT winner but he is a GT rider.

He could win a Giro in a year where he sacrifices the classics.

He has the credentials there of strong ITT, good climber, punch to get bonus seconds, durable and able to absorb bad weather conditions. Don’t think La Vuelta would suit him as well.

I’m more excited about what he can continue to do in the classics than GT leadership. Just for my entertainment—there’s been such a paucity of successful American classics riders that I look forward to seeing what’s he’s capable of.

That’s an equally valid hope. You have a clutch of likeable emerging riders along with some of the hottest properties in the juniors and currently Jorgensen looks the closest to breaking through as a winner at Worlds/Grand Tour GC/Monument level.

I think he could do it if the first 2 were out of the mix, now. Another year or so he'd be ready to take them all on if there is parity in a supporting cast.

Do you mean Giro 2026? He has said he didn't want to be the leader in a GT yet, which I assume means for this year.
