Who knows. I think Jorgenson can have a decent chance in a GT without top guns (like Pogi, Vingo, Remco or Rogla).

He could win a Giro in a year where he sacrifices the classics.
He has the credentials there of strong ITT, good climber, punch to get bonus seconds, durable and able to absorb bad weather conditions. Don’t think La Vuelta would suit him as well.

Yes, great win. Glad to see Jorgenson get reward out of the shadow of his team leader. I don’t like his team but I like him.
I’m more excited about what he can continue to do in the classics than GT leadership. Just for my entertainment—there’s been such a paucity of successful American classics riders that I look forward to seeing what’s he’s capable of.
That’s an equally valid hope. You have a clutch of likeable emerging riders along with some of the hottest properties in the juniors and currently Jorgensen looks the closest to breaking through as a winner at Worlds/Grand Tour GC/Monument level.

@laarsland May I suggest that you phrase the thread title such that it is without the possessive 's? The search function is unable to find the thread when you search for "Jorgenson" (and searching for thread titles is usually the quickest and most convenient way to find a thread).
I think he could do it if the first 2 were out of the mix, now. Another year or so he'd be ready to take them all on if there is parity in a supporting cast.

Promising signs from Jorg. Put on quite a performance for such a big guy with no explosiveness. At this point in his career, it's pretty clear that stage races are his niche, and he has to focus on being a Grand tour rider. He'll have a huge role this summer, and if, as I expect him to, he'll finish in the region of 4-7 in GC, he'll ride the Giro in 2026 as the leader.

Do you mean Giro 2026? He has said he didn't want to be the leader in a GT yet, which I assume means for this year.

We don't know what a "full-strength Evenepoel" is at this point or when he'll be at strength. Jorgenson has shown he can improve. Given a healthy future and some realistic GC help from Visma, yes.
His apparent lack of explosiveness is countered by a reasonable sprint ability. Like all GT contenders there are some attributes that get neglected. His power ability seems solid and the Big Guy label deals with his stature. He's in the same weight class as other contenders and that height provides leverage.
He has, several times. Unless you mean that race that Remco would exclaim he is at his best rather than hedging at why he wasn't. MJ has raced against the riders that showed up and won. Paris Nice, Dauphine'.....some semi classics. He's had to fight to get the chance to race the top guys, usually with minimal support.

Has there been any talk about the Vuelta for Jorgenson? Or is he just gonna go straight for the WC which should be right up his alley with his climbing/Flandrien hybrid strenghts.
I kinda dislike his focus on the cobbles outside of RVV. He talks about wanting to win one but when big dogs show up he's going down anyway, and I think he has every ability to top 5 Sanremo and Liege too provided he's in good shape.

No news I've heard about Vuelta. I tend to agree on the cobbled races, though. He's only a few pounds heavier than Tadej so there's that conflict in body build for GTs vs rough classics. He has the endurance.

Visma in general is using an unusual TDF preparation to be sure, I sure hope all the secret training turns out to be a pleasant surprise in July. Bicycle business model has disproportionate value on TDF for team visibility and revenue stream. Visma has quality sprinters that could contest stages and green jersey. I sure hope that their GC play works out, Kuss, Vingegaard and Jorgenson look good on paper..
Matteo is ostensibly working for Vino, but much like Paris-Nice, I think he actually wants to win this Dauphine, let's not forget he got second last year, losing by only 7 seconds.

Matteo is in dauphine and in the Tour to work for Vingegaard. Nothing else matters.
