Another amazing result for humanity. What a man Peter Sagan is.

Sagan won because of his master tactical a handling skills - in this case also wind-handling... being able to find some space between Nizzolo and barriers, so that he is out of the sidewind till the last moment... and it worked!

I'm totally against this WC. It's morally and sportively wrong. But if you look purely at the race today, you can't say it was a bad race. We wanted echelons, and we've got them. The only poor thing were Belgium's racing tactics (going 100% for Boonen instead of letting a rider attack in the final and forcing the other teams/riders to take their responsibilty) in the final 10 km.

It was surely better then Copenhagen. But if the UCI wants to organize another WC far abroad in the future, they need to go to Colombia, Japan, Australia or other countries who have a certain cycling culture.

The only takeaway I want to add is that this race should be filed under the "Racing is a physical test; it's not a chessmatch" folder of races. When 80% of races are won or lost because of decision making, the few races that do manifest as feats of strength get glossed over as bad tactics. If GVA could have attacked, I'm sure he would have. Terpestra tried to attack, and that acceleration was all he could muster: enough to get noticed, not enough to actually get a gap. Kristoff tried to sprint, and couldn't.

I mean did he ever put his nose in the front before the final 200m. I'm quite serene because this win is worthless anyway. I've always said this, even long before Sagan turned pro. Nothing to feel bitter for Libs or for me. Cycling fans need to realise that this performance is way overrated.

Make your mind up, is it worthless or way overrated? The guy's already a legend and his career still has a long way to go - get used to it.

Also Cavendish yet again blaming his teammate in defeat - classy as usual from the Manx Moaner (Brit here btw).

"It was my own fault. It wasn't my legs, and when it's not my legs, I'm a bit p****d because I made a mistake. It's not really nice to do that at a World Championships."

Not just because of Baldwin Street , there are many hilly around the city (you could have a hard first part of the race before the start of the circuit) and there are also a few larger steep roads, Blacks Road would be a good example.

Not a bad idea. Area around Dunedin could create really interesting course. Lots of short steep climbs, and finish around The Octagon.

Probably get fewer spectators than even Doha though.

Yes they are great sportsmen, they are exhibitionist types , but there similarity ends.

Slovak Championship , who would Sagan won but he did everything for his brother to won it

11th stage of TdF. In the team TS’s dinner video you would heard that Peter would let Bodnar win , if Fromie wasn’t attack. He didn’t care about more wins or secure Green Jersey. No just wanted to give reward to guy who deserve it

And today Michal Kollar, last Slovak riders left with Peter till the end, said that he (Sagan) ask him in 10-8th km before finish, if he wanted to sprint, and he (Peter) would be his lead-out. But Michal said he has no legs for it. So f-off second world title in a row. I can help my friend I wil do it.

It's good people like you dislike him. Only makes Sagan more likeable.

Im a bit dissapointed that Greg and Hayman only closed down Terpstras attacks instead of trying anything themselves. Matthews not the favourite among those sprinters and Belgium had the numbers to attack. Sad.

I'm not sure why Belgium had so much faith in Boonen's sprint. They were the strongest team and I think they should've done things differently on the final circuit to make it harder for Sagan, Cavendish etc.. now I feel they just led them out. Boonen is still fast after a long race, but against these guys he'll only win 3/10 nowadays. A big gamble

Against Sagan and Cav, who spent the enitre day in the wheels? 30%? I'd take he over/under from that group on about 2%

Let's reverse roles. Sagan is in the wind from 200m to go and Boonen can come round Nizzolo in the final 100m. Boonen is favourite to win then. 2%, that's just silly, you know a lot more about cycling than that.

I had hoped for more from Greg too, but he was spent unfortunately.

BELGIUM did not have the nombers in the end. Their nombers were spent hardworking whole race. Their nombers were actually their disadvantage. Sagan, Cav,Kristoff and com. did not have to work at all. It means GVA Boonen had no chance. After war everybody is general but if 4 belgium rider had disappeared 60-70 km to finish their chance would have been considerebly higher.

He'd be very highly dependent on both Cav and Sagan messing up their sprints. Both are riders with a pedigree of positioning themselves well. In fact, Cav did mess it up, and he still beat Boonen. If he didn't mess up, he'd do it with his eyes closed. I'm actually surprised Boonen got 3rd, and I think it's the maximum he could've hoped for.

The last time Boonen won a sprint in a big race was more than 4 years ago. GW 2012 IIRC. Cav and Sagan had barely done any work. That's not a hard race that favours Boonen at all.

Argentina (although opportunities for an exciting parcours are limited, though there is a short but steep hill around Mar del Plata somewhere)

why only consider the BA area? have it by the Andes, Mendoza, Salta, Tucuman and you have all the makings for a legendary and beautiful parcours. But i hear Races are being dropped, not pushed in Argentina, these days
