I expected more from Ganna, but apparently he had a bad day. 2 local girls from South Tyrol finished in the top 10 in the WJ ITT, that's pretty cool.
Italy has a scary team for the U23 RR: Albanese, Ballerini, Consonni, Ganna, Minali and Mareczko, that's a monster team. There aren't many guys on the startlist who could beat Kuba in a sprint, will Juan Sebastian Molano ride the U23 RR?

U23; Kristoffer Halvorsen would win the sprint this year 9 times out of 10..
Yes, he's a great rider, but beating Mareczko 9 times out of 10 in a race that is totally flat? The biggest question mark is probably Mareczko's shape, he's been pretty bad since the Tour of Qinghai Lake.

Doesnt matter, he has no chance against Halvorsen in a sprint. Halvorsen beats some of the best sprinters in the world today as a 20 year old kid. Like Groenewegen ,Coquard, Hutarovitch and many more. This year he is on top of his game and a top favorite in a sprint in Doha.
Hmm, my guess is that Mareczko is faster on a completely flat course like this, if they're sprinting head to head. Halvorsen isn't a pure sprinter and would probably benefit from a harder race, though. There's also a big question mark as to how he will handle the heat.

Halvorsen IS a pure sprinter.. With some classic abilities, still. We will see, i think 20 year old Halvorsen wins this ea<sy :D Norway is also second best Nation in the world in U23 this year, so he got a team to support him.

260km in 7hrs on a completely flat course? That's 37km/h. If they average that pace then they might as well smoke a few cigars and have a couple of sherries along the way because everyone in the peloton will be averaging less than 100 watts. Heat will certainly not be an issue then.

And dry heat feels cooler than when there is moisture in the air at the same temperature. So, at 35 degrees, it's basically a slightly above average July or August day for the riders living in Monaco, Andorra, Spain and Italy (most of the pro peloton)- nothing more than that.

Wouldn't that be illegal?
I'm sure the UCI wil negotiate some TUE's with the Qatari legislative.

No echelons and no heatwave? No fun.

How do you ride 260km of flat desert again as a sport director in the car ? I pray for winds, and a small sand storm. Maybe some beduins that throws rocks? Anyway, if i was a sport director for Germany, UK, Italy, Australia, Belgium or France i would have atleast two riders with orders to get in the breakaway. So maybe, this will be a hard race after all-

THough i doubt it, most people are boring :D. Thats why we like riders like Sagan and Pantani .. Yea i said it :D. I love cycling.

Wind or no wind, I'm sure Belgium and Norway will set a furious pace given the characteristics of their leaders.

You think Belgium will go for a mass sprint? I dont think so. Depends on how hard the race is.

I just hope its not a breakaway from Iran, Venezuela and Sri Lanka that gets 10 minutes early.. And then Germany and UK slowly pulls em in. Ill rather see a turd be eaten by bacteria for 7 hours :D
Belgium will want a hard sprint because the characteristics of their finishers suits a hard race.

Ye, 260 km on a flat desert.. Would be perfect for a strong Italian team with Petacchi at the end :D. Anyway, there is no hills, no big turns, not even rocks in the road that make favorites puncture.. LEts hope the heat is a factor atleast.

What teams has a sprinter as CAptain again?

Germany
Italy
Australia
France
Norway
Slovakia
Denmark
"Belgium"

Thats like half the field- Good luck breakaway :D

Quick question and this seems as good a thread instead of making one.
Does the under 23 champions get to wear the jerseys in like the world tour? and if not what races?
Then can a world tour rider race in the under 23?

Pretty sure the u23 World Champion only gets to wear the jersey in u23 races or something like that. Not in the WT, and WT riders can't ride the u23 WC anyway

I think they can nowadays, as long as they're under 23 and haven't raced in the elite WC previously. Erik Baska (Tinkoff), for example, is participating in the U23 race this year.

They can, but they can only race in one of them, U23 or ELITE; not both.

If I'm not mistaken, they cannot compete if they have started in the elite race the year before either. That's what I meant. Maybe "before" would've been a better choice of words than "previously". My bad.

Anyway, I don't know about the jersey either. If there is one, they would probably be restricted to wearing it in races that are categorised as U23 only. But I can't think of any U23 world champions that didn't get a pro contract the following season, so it doesn't really matter anyhow.

Mads Würtz wore it in the TTs this year, but only on U23 races.
