Simon Geschke has now finished 6th, 7th and 9th on stage finishes in Mende. Has anyone else achieved three results in the lower half of the top 10 in the same town without getting better results as well?
Richie Porte - 6th, 7th and 6th in consecutive stages to Alpe d'Huez. He climbed it on one other occasion where he missed the top 10.

Marcel Kittel winning four Giro stages and almost finishing his career without one pro win on Italian soil (that only happened in Tirreno 2018).

Cancellara winning the opening Tour stage five times but never in France.

Countries that have never won a grand tour stage even though grand tour stage winners have been born there.
Malta - David Millar
Morocco - Richard Virenque
Kenya - Chris Froome
Japan - Chris Horner
Greece - Lucien Lazaridès

if you include team time trial winners
Finland - Charly Wegelius

No French rider has won a stage or so much as worn the jersey of any classification at the Tour since Julian Alaphilippe lost green on the fourth stage of last year's race. That's a total of 33 stages.

On the plus side, today Valentin Madouas became the first French rider to finish in the top-two of a stage since The Greatest Of All Time Before Masnada Came Along gifted Mohoric the nineteenth stage last year.

At least a native French speaker won today. Which was the first Canadian win since 1988.

Actually, this wasn't correct. Luxembourg didn't win between 1966 and 2006, so that too beats the 34 years for Canada.
Despite their 39-year drought Luxembourg still has by far the best stage wins per population record in the Tour.

All-time Tour de France stage wins per million population (top ten countries)
  1. Luxembourg 112.3
  2. Belgium 42.0
  3. France 10.6
  4. Netherlands 10.4
  5. Switzerland 7.1
  6. Slovenia 6.2
  7. Italy 4.6
  8. Denmark 4.1
  9. Norway 3.5
  10. Estonia 3.0

So where do Cav's wins go? The Isle of Man isn't part of the UK (it was never in the EU) but its not a country on its own either. I think it has circa 404 stage wins per million.

Chris Froome's third place in Alpe d'Huez last week was his first top 10 in any race since April 2019. In other words, Froome managed to be among the 2 best paid cyclists in the world for three years without achieving a single top 10 result.

Just came to my mind and it's surprising it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Contador never finishing on the podium of a gt he didn't win is incredibly weird.

Victory or death!
That earns respect.
If you win one, only another victory can matter. A high placing is trivial. Take a lesson G. Thomas and ride for the win this week.

There was a lot of talk about Spain, Italy and France possibly going winless this Tour. This made me think when the last stage was, where no italian, spanish or french riders finished in the top-10. It‘s stage 9 of the 2018 TdF with Sylvain Chavanel in 14th the highest finisher from these countries. Sadly not really a mental statistic because that‘s pretty recent.
Edit: Last time before that is in Bern in 2016
