Miguel Angel Lopez Kidnapped and robbed in his own ranch.

Is he being held captive or did the kidnappers leave him again? I speak neither Spanish nor Google translate.

First question was is he alright, second thing was who has 800gs just knocking around the house.

Do they mean 800,000 pesos or USD, surely pesos which doesn't sound anywhere near as drastic (about 300 USD apparently).
The numbers are very confusing, but the Colombian peso is a junk currency so it sort of makes sense that a really high number of 800,000 would be in Colombian money.. Nobody has that kind of cash at home and I know for a fact dealing with banks in Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama if you even want to do a large transaction it's not easy and usually takes days if it can be done at all. You are not going to a neighborhood bank branch in the 3rd world and ask for $800,000 bucks.. Bank manager's head would explode

If you say 800.000 is high and junk, I don't know what you're going to say about what I'm using everyday. I'm talking millions everyday😁

Doesn't that difficulty make lots of things will be done with cash? Okay, maybe not $ 800,000, except it's some certain business money.

Trust me the dollar is pretty weak, and is trading w the Mexican peso at 16.35:$1 USD..I have friends in Lebanon and they need a sack of money to buy bread.. Colombia is inexpensive compared to the US and I forgot about paying thousands for some food and beer.!!. In N.Baja an craft beer is @90-100 pesos.. Money doesn't go as far as it used to!! for beer or kidnapping.. Glad the guy and his family are ok ..Colombia is working really really hard to get tourists and this kind of BS doesn't help..

Last night I even dreamt about MAL. Maybe because I think about his fate oftenly.

In this dream he was driving a bus and I sat in the front row. He wore a long Astana jersey. He looked off shape, but was positive and optimistic.

I mean, come on, what has he been through. Cut with a knife by robbers when he was young. Victim again in 2023, when they stole money, car and smartphone.

Now this weird UCI ban due to supposed Anti doping violations in 2022 and links to Dr Maynar.

Do you guys know when there will be a verdict in his case, a decision what he will face?

At the moment, he just has to wait. As soon as he‘s free to race again, he‘ll certainly receive great offers from the best teams.

Keeping him out of the game doesn’t help anyone. He‘s entertaining, so he shall race as soon as possible. An epic rider. I mean, he‘s an emotional guy. You just missed „your“ breakaway group, and can‘t make it to the front again? Well, time to leave this Vuelta! ;)

I miss this man. No need to fight him the way Pantani sadly was fought. MAL shall return to racing as soon as possible. Probably most peloton colleagues would agree.

Being involved in an scandal sometimes is worse than tesing positive because you are in an eternal limbo. This is very strange indeed. Sometimes I think that what happened to Valverde is better so that you can resolve the issue at once without delays.
I wouldn't call two years from Operación Puerto to CONI being able to test him (after the Prato Nevoso stage of the 2008 Tour) and then a further year and nine months riding while banned from entering Italy before getting him off the road being "resolved at once without delays". It's just that they couldn't get him off the road, similar to what happened with Froome in 2018 and Contador in 2011 with them riding under clouds for several months.

López is more in the same limbo as Mosquera was when Vacansoleil wouldn't let him race but then they tacked on the full length of the ban on top of the time served rather than backdating it, effectively giving him a three year ban when two years was the max he should have got based on the anti-doping rules at the time.

Miguel Angel Lopez was tested by the UCI while serving the ban and vacationing in Disney, USA. You can't make this stuff up.

UCI probably wanted to test him to make sure he wasn't doped in the Space Mountain!!!

I haven't scanned the WADA code very thoroughly, but since athletes serving bans can be tested, I am going to guess that the same also applies to provisional suspensions.

An Athlete or other Person subject to a period of Ineligibility shall remain subject to Testing and
any requirement by an Anti-Doping Organization to provide whereabouts information.

I think only retiring ends the testing and Lopez has not retired yet

Anti-Doping Organizations may test any Athlete over whom they have Testing authority who has not retired, including Athletes serving a period of Ineligibility
