I don't understand the negativity. It's a good thing that all races are not the same. This one is long with weather conditions that can be bad, or good, unpredictable. Contrary to what many wrote in years past n this forum, Il Poggio can still be the judge, a mass sprint is very possible, which is why great pure sprinters have won it...and never won another monument. There's not just one way to win this. You can be brave, a little lucky and pull it.

All the Sagan votes, percentage-wise, raise my left eyebrow. Mass sprint, he can't win IMO. There will always be a faster guy left. Poggio move? He'll be the one to beat in a small group format. He's too good for his own good. And that's what makes him so special: he still wins a bunch. Not this time, methinks...Demare (my 2018 prediction pick) or Dylan G. and I wuld not bet against Kwiat. Viviani? Meh. Bouhani? He'll be punching the arm of his couch if Demare wins. I don't think that other sprinters except Gaviria can make it fresh and stand a chance if anything serious happens on Il Poggio...which makes it relevant...which means that MSR is a great race.

Chess games are not super entertaining, unless you pay attention and understand the moves...I unedrstand that MMA fights like PR can create more of an adrenaline roller-coaster, but it's not the point. Different races, diversity is good. And regardless, Merckx wins .

Otherwise you can go to Steephill.tv. I know that's the go-to option for a lot of people, but for some reason I sometimes have trouble accessing a race. Probably because I'm doing something wrong, but youtube works all the time.

In the interviews preceding the race I see the pressure is put on Sagan. He certainly is the one to watch, but I'm not sure the pressure will change the way he'll race... and the way anybody else will. Assessing each other's freshness might be tactically decisive. The wind at the coast could unveil someone's fatigue.

This thread has been a good company for the insomniac person that I am. Thanks to all contributors, especially to gregrowlerson for being able to bring up Contador and to DNP-Old for going all in on Laporte. So the plan for tomorrow: turn on the race and doze off untill Cipressa... or Poggio... or 200m... before the finish line

Half the guys you mentioned aren't even racing. Bouhanni, Gaviria, Groenewegen...

I'm super excited even if I won't be able to watch it live due to my own race.

One thing is sure about this race. Year after year. All the hype will turn into discussion about unworthy winner and wheelsucking.

The chance of a big group sprint seems smaller than five or ten years ago. Several sprinters are absent or not in top shape. The two top favorites (S&K) will attack on the Poggio to get rid of the remaining sprinters. Of the sprinters Greipel seems the best chance to me. Climbers like Alaphilippe, Gilbert and Nibali will have it difficult to win as always. I just saw those profiles of the Cipressa and the Poggio again, and they're really nothing. They're just famous for being the final two climbs in a monument, but not steep at all to modern standards. The first time I saw this race was when Fignon won, so I thought it was for climbers. Since then my view has radically changed and I can understand why most climbers don't even start.

Because of all the hype, I'm actually hoping Sagan doesn't win later. He is a very good rider but I'm slowly going off him (not as though I've been on him much anyway). Reminds me of another rider who used to get so much hype that I just had to take a bit of a dislike to him. If Sagan gets away on the Poggio with a few others (making him the potential favourite) then I do not think he will drag them to the end like last year, thus allowing the sprinters teams to come back into it giving us a lottery at the line. Originally I said Kwia to win, then I thought maybe cummings with a long attack. Now I'm maybe thinking Greipel will take it in a sprint.

I like Milan-Sanremo. Sure, the race isn't very interesting for the most part and nothing happens until Poggio when nothing but the expected happens, but there's a very historical vibe to it. A race on mostly flat roads, a race of endurance just like in the old days.

I love MSR. It's the first race that really matters. It reminds me quite a lot of WC's, because there's a lot at stake and a lot of potential winners. This adds so much tension into the mix as the race hots up.

The finale is often wonderful.

I don't know if Greipel ever contested for the win here, so I doubt it will be different this time. I see only Viviani, Kristoff and Demare in contention, especially latter two, but Sagan can beat all of them. The key for him is not to attack and save strength as possible
