CN is not here to "spark interesting debate" it's here to sell stuff, plain and simple.Anything controversial beyond The Clinic is apparently inapropriate for CN. It's why the Politics thread was closed, even if it sparked interesting debate.

I don't think, however, the one excludes the other. Anything that draws attention to the website will foster sales. It's the publicity effect.CN is not here to "spark interesting debate" it's here to sell stuff, plain and simple.
Politics is against the rules because it gets out of hand and becomes impossible to police. It also results in users becoming unnecessarily antagonistic towards each other which also adds to the effort of moderation.CN is not here to "spark interesting debate" it's here to sell stuff, plain and simple.
In the beginning there was much good debate, but politics, like religion, radicalizes the content. And it has been so since Plato and the sacred mysteries of the unknown. The Politics Thread degenerated into tribal warfare and there was not a lot of debate ( Godwin's Law etc). Much like the Roglic thread!![]()
The saddest part of it is, there were some quality posters in there who have since become inactive, I enjoyed reading their take on pretty much anything, whether I agreed with it or not.In the beginning there was much good debate, but politics, like religion, radicalizes the content. Did these posters also come around for some cycling talk, though, or did they just come around to talk some politics? The saddest part of it is, there were some quality posters in there who have since become inactive, I enjoyed reading their take on pretty much anything, whether I agreed with it or not.
Mixed, I think. Of course everyone comes here because of cycling, but some don't post much in the PRR-sub. Many of the old café regulars were most often seen in the clinic outside of the café.Did these posters also come around for some cycling talk, though, or did they just come around to talk some politics?
I didn't pay much attention to that, but I know that some were quite active in the Armstrong debates back in the day.Did these posters also come around for some cycling talk, though, or did they just come around to talk some politics?
Fair enough. I just remember some new posters looked like they only came around to talk politics, I never actually saw them participate in any cycling and/or racing threads.I didn't pay much attention to that, but I know that some were quite active in the Armstrong debates back in the day.
Seconded.Thank you for your service, @Red Rick
Was about to ask the same...Did something happen earlier?
I'm still here for the time being. But I'm on my way out too, so it would be great if we could find a few new mods.So... who shall we poke to get race thread stickied (and unstickied)?
I don't suppose it's possible to be a sticky-only mod?
Red Rick isn’t a mod anymore it looks like. Was about to ask the same...
Indeed! And with Eshnar also apparently leaving as a mod in the near future... inquiring minds want to know what's going on.Red Rick isn’t a mod anymore it looks like.
Thanks for the explanation and thank you for your service!Yeah I made the decision to step down as a moderator. Nothing 'happened', I had been thinking it over for a while.
We appreciate your hard work and dedication over the many years.Yeah I made the decision to step down as a moderator. Nothing 'happened', I had been thinking it over for a while.
And we appreciate your many years of service and wonderful Giro write ups.I'm still here for the time being. But I'm on my way out too, so it would be great if we could find a few new mods.
Thank you and well done, I suspect it’s not an easy gig!Yeah I made the decision to step down as a moderator. Nothing 'happened', I had been thinking it over for a while.
Nothing is going on. it's the same reason why I decided to stop with the Giro analysis. I've been a mod since 2013 and in the last 3-4 years have done no moderating at all, aside nuking the occasional spammer. If anything, I should have resigned sooner.Indeed!
