Rider, Thomas Pidcock, in the Men's Junior CX WC race came from 32nd on the last lap to finish 5th!!!

That's not true.

Pidcock started the last lap in 12th in the worst case, I don't know now in certain, but I am absolutely certain that he was for some time in a group which was fighting for a top-8 position at least.

I heard it from the commentators. They made a big thing of it how he came from 32nd on last lap.

He started in 32nd (or around that mark).

I'm just seeing the replay now, he was 12th in the beginning of the last lap (17th two laps from the finish).

Just found out about this. A 19-year old girl for crying out loud. You know I actually kind of feel sorry for her. As a 19-year old it's perfectly reasonable that you're not able to fully understand the consequences of your actions yet. Sure you know you're doing something wrong, but you often underestimate the impact it might have when you get caught.

Now, what's totally baffling me is why nobody from her entourage talked this out of her head (assuming it was her idea in the first place). As a mature person, what kind of total idiot you must be to go along with this and put such a young girl in this kind of position?

Cheating in pro cycling is part of the culture, whether PEDs or mechanical doping.

If she is the first one caught then it means that it has been around for several years already.

Although it's a bit of a line in the sand, for me, this is worse than pharmacological doping.

Just read the Genvieve Jeanson story :(

This young rider for sure is culpable, but I highly doubt she had the money to buy the motor or the technical skill to install it. Sounds like it is the parent that deserves to take the biggest fall, but alas its not his picture now splashed all over the internet. What a thing for this young woman to have to deal with for the rest of her life.

I don't know what to say.

So, if a teenage girl is persuaded by the advantages of this type of cheat in a CX race, imagine the lures in races where the prestige and money add up just about a hundred times more...

At Koppenberg Cross Femke van den Driessche's time up Koppenberg was 5% faster then all female Pro's. Only 21 sec behind Sven Nys.
Source?
Perhaps tergeted/snitched/sacrificed then?

apparently Nikki Harris was not happy with Van Driessche's performance at Koppenberg Cross.

I am not sure it's that clear-cut.
Can totally imagine a rider to be aware of blood doping around her, but feeling like putting stuff in her body, body is feeling fine. Level the playing field another way. Heck, I know riders who would literally die from EPO, having a high hct of their own. If they'd want to commit fraud, mechanical would be a logical choice.

If a lowly CX u23 rider is 'mechanical doping' you can be sure others at the pointy end of the sport, road and track are too.

It would have made sense for the UCI to publish every x-ray they took of the bikes checked for motors, in the interest of transparency, but i dont remember seeing any. I wonder will someone (Seppelt) turn up this year at a Parc ferme and start checking bikes, that would be good.

Even to turn up with a fake x-ray machine and see the reactions from mechanics would be telling.

What you read referred to a "minimum" and there is a possible fine for the rider and the team. This is not the "bash Cookson" thread. It seems he was right to expect this.
are you Cookson's mouthpiece?
honest question.

No but Cookson has hardly been transparent either.

Re: Mechanical doping: first rider caught

When I see that Koppenberg result, I'm starting to think the test might not have been all that random. Weird and unusual results should warrant extra attention.

So according to the riders dad, a person of the entourage had put the bike in the pits and it was accidentaally given to her. I'm having a hard time believing this

Well...that is about the only possible excuse that would fit in with the undeniable facts...

Apparently it was the bike of a friend who goes along with her while warming up, the bike was left in the pits and apparently she didn't even ride it.
