The House of The Devil (2009) Creepy horror movie with plenty of atmosphere but the build up was more effective than the reveal. Still a pretty good movie especially for Halloween !

The Haunting (1999) - Rewatched only parts of it because the sets are just spectacular and the best part about this otherwise forgettable horror flick. It's one of Liam Neeson's many nadirs, he really did take every role that was offered even back in '99, didn't he? The sets are worth at least a partial rewatch though, so there's that.
Prison (1949) directed by Ingmar Bergman. Probably too dark and slow paced for some. Well acted. A good early Bergman movie but don't expect many laughs.

Re-watched Gosford Park (2001) - Such a smart and well-crafted murder mystery with a terrific cast, I think the only issue I had was Emily Watson talked so softly and so fast even the subtitles couldn't keep up with her and I don't like to miss any dialogue. But that aside the sets, scenery, and costumes were great, and I liked the subtle jibes they took at the filmmaking industry. (Like Maggie Smith quipping she could never tell the difference between a producer and a director - lol!) It is over two hours long but I think those are two hours well spent.
Ex Machina (2015) slow burn sci/fi about artificial intelligence. Well acted. Worth a watch.
Wow!!watched Steve McQueen's.. Blitz last night, absolutely great in every way. Amazing sets, costumes, characters and story. I have always enjoyed good films about war when done right!!
Strange unexpected surprise, Paul Weller, a favorite of mine, plays a kind, musically inclined grandfather. The cast is just excellent,
Don't think he can be overused, but Stephen Graham pops up in the movie and plays a sick SOB, that robs from the dead and by use of force has children loot bombed out houses and businesses, spoils of war scumbag, he is convincing.

The Skin I Live In (2011) pretty typical Almodovar fare with his usual obsessions on display. Gender blurring, perverse ideas,mothers and their children and sexuality. This time with an added horror slant re a doctor doing illegal operations. The Dr Frankenstein parallels are obvious whereby anyone can be sacrificed to advance science. Nice performance by Antonio Banderas. entertaining enough for the open minded but not one of Almodovar's best.

John Hawkes is a very fine actor. I've been following his work since "Deadwood," one of the finest telly series ever (if you have a limitless tolerance for salty language).
Yes, I liked Deadwood very much. Such a good cast even the smaller roles.

Trapped Inn (2024) - First off, I want my money and two hours of my life back! 🤣
But seriously, my expectations were very low, but being this horror flick supposedly had something to do with pro cycling I caved and gave it a go. Not surprising but it has very little to do with cycling - in the initial scenes the team is supposedly altitude training and in the very first scene it looks like they're riding Specialized bikes. But after that the Specialized disappear and are replaced by bikes that have their logos blacked out, weird. Also, the riders are very quickly killed off and only a few survive for the duration of the movie... this could have easily been any sport team or just any group of young people who go to a cabin and then are killed off one by one like usual in these type of horror flicks.
The dialogue was inane, the acting pretty poor, there was very little cycling and precious little sci-fi, and the movie takes itself way too seriously. (There's no way a run-of-the-mill horror flick should be two hours long, but this movie had such prolonged, artificially dramatic scenes that I ended up laughing.)
All in all save yourself the time and money, the trailer is about the only cycling you will get to see in Trapped Inn.

I'm not familiar with Matt Rife, evidently he's a comedian?
He's definitely a pretty boy who could easily model, but his acting is nothing to write home about. Of course, Trapped Inn was such a crap movie with such a crap script and crap directing that maybe he'd do better in a better movie, who knows.

I haven't seen Downton Abbey but obviously it must have been very well made since it was so popular and was around for a few years.
Salem's Lot (2024) the third and worst adaptation of Stephen King's novel. Barely made it to the finish. Mediocre.
Longlegs (2024) Slow burn thriller, heavy on atmosphere. Well acted but the two main performances will be off putting for some. A another freaky performance by Nicholas Cage while the other performance is so low key that is it just as disturbing as Cage's for opposite reasons. Similar in tone to films like Seven and Silence Of The Lambs. Pretty good overall.
North By Northwest (1959) Entertaining Alfred Hitchcock movie with nice performances from Cary Grant, James Mason and Eve-Marie Saint. Witty dialogue and some iconic scenes on Mt Rushmore, and with the crop duster chase scene.. Probably second tier Hitchcock, Doesn't quite hit the heights of his very best movies but worth watching all the same.
I've seen that flick several times - good movie. Good ole Cary Grant. One of my favorite actors back then along with The Duke, McQueen, Douglas & Eastwood. And Eve-Marie Saint was pretty hot back then. Being a Boomer, I get one of the classic movie channels & watch a lot of those old flicks.
The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) maybe Dario Argento's last reasonably good movie. A psychological thriller with some scenes that wouldn't get past the censor these days. The acting was better than usual for an Argento movie and the concept was interesting but after a good first half it couldn't keep the momentum going. Needed a bit of tweaking. As usual for his films, some great imagery and one or two bonkers scenes !
Banshees of Inisherin (2022). Brendan Gleeson, Colin Ferrell, Kerry Condon. Directed by Martin McDonagh. Good movie!
