Totally Killer: a reboot of Back to the Future combo with a teenage murder/slasher returned 30 years later. The 'back' part is to 1987, the year I graduated, so it gets an extra .5 for that! 2 out of 3.

It's about how most people don't understand money, the stock market, financial transactions or institutions. Good movie.. and as pointed out good cast..
I watched it last night, I thought it was very entertaining and interesting. Everything just gelled, and I thought Christian Bale's performance was especially outstanding. He's a good actor anyway, but he really stood out in this movie.

I'd have to rewatch The Big Short because there are things I definitely missed, but it's a movie I wouldn't mind rewatching at all.

The Strangers (2008) Home invasion movie. Makes Funny Games look like a masterpiece ! Short and fairly predictable with a bleak ending which was probably the best part of the movie. Mediocre.

Rage (2021) - No, this is not Nic Cage's Rage, this is someone else's rage. :tearsofjoy:

But seriously, this quiet and subdued adult drama is so tense I have yet to watch the last 20 minutes, don't know if I can take it! The movie gets a fairly poor rating on IMDb from the 5 people who have actually seen it, I guess I'll have to sit through to the finish to see if the ending is the reason why. Otherwise I think it's just an extraordinarily tense movie, with everything that's going on in it I'm not sure the ending even can ruin it. We shall see.

You need to be very very careful about watching all these movies!! Movies about systematic corruption about finance, food, medicine, agriculture, petrochemical industry, defense industrial complex need to be consumed with long recess periods for your mind and soul!!
And many of these movies can sneak up on you!!
If you watch Michael Clayton, Manchurian Candidate, Big Short, Dopesick, Super Size Me and Erin Brockovich in the same month you have to lock your knife drawer, gun cabinet and not walk near a cliff or train tracks!!
Most of those movies I've seen, but thankfully I left enough time in-between to remain somewhat sane. Though, right now I've been watching a lot of documentaries about the 2008 financial crisis so I can understand The Big Short and Margin Call better, I better stay away from those sharp objects and cliffs still! :D

Five Nights At Freddy's (2023) odd sort of movie, a little bit of everything which seemed to dilute the end result. The animatronics were better than the actors ! The best part about it was probably the setting itself with the run down building, and the special effects. It was also way too long for the lightweight material. A pretty mundane horror/thriller/comedy based on a video game which was no surprise.

Husbands and Wives (1992) one of Woody Allen's best movies post 1990. A heavy dose of neurotic, intellectual New Yorker's. More drama than comedy and very well acted especially by Mia Farrow, Judy Davis and Sydney Pollack Also interesting seeing Liam Neeson playing a character almost the exact opposite of his more recent movies and doing it very well. Basically a darker look at relationships, not a feel good movie. Also well written by Allen and with one of his more restrained performances.

Godzilla (1998) big budget Hollywood hokum. Apart from some good special effects it was pretty dull Take out Jean Reno as a French Secret Service Agent and it gets even duller. Silly and overlong but it started the rehash of Godzilla movies that have been hanging around ever since. Mediocre.

The Running Man (1987) - Watched this classic, big budget 80's sci-fi movie for the umpteenth time, such a great cast and so very fun. Classic Arnie movie.

The Last Voyage Of The Demeter (2023) average horror movie based on a small section of the original Dracula novel. Some decent special effects, performances were okay. Reasonably entertaining.

Alien Romulus (2024) Lacked originality. Borrowed so much from the previous Alien movies.Visually good but nowhere near the quality of the first three Alien movies although not as bad as Covenant or Resurrection. A disappointment but still relatively entertaining.

Rewatched Chappaquiddick (2017) - All politics aside (heh, hard to do when discussing a movie about one of the Kennedys), I would strongly recommend watching a few documentaries about the real Chappaquiddick incident beforehand, where there's a Kennedy conspiracy theories are sure to follow. Lots and lots of them! And this movie managed to cram just about all of them in, but the truth is, even to this day it's hard to separate fact from fiction because the real investigation was such a cloaked in secrecy clusterfuck. But I think it's still a good mystery movie if nothing else, the only part that bugged me was when the character of Kennedy was consulting with all his advisors, at that point the dialogue and problem solving became rather buffoonish and didn't fit the serious tone of the rest of the film. But otherwise I think Chappaquiddick is worth a looky, but like I said, watch a few documentaries first because then it will be a lot easier to follow.

Child 44 (2015) - Very grim and darkly filmed movie based on real life serial killer Andrei Chikatilo from the former USSR, I dozed off a lot because it felt really drawn out. The cast is great (except for Noomi Rapace's shrieking and hysterical portrayal of her character), but being it's filmed so darkly and everyone wears similar clothing it's hard to tell the characters apart. And the ending was so rushed and incredulous that it felt like the filmmakers just wanted to wrap things up ASAP.

There's a much better earlier movie based on the same serial killer called Citizen X (1995), the cast is also great and the pacing is much better. Everyone's Russian accent is shitty just like in Child 44, but at least this movie is a lot more watchable.

Saw a doco on Chikatilo, that was more than enough ! Surprised about Noomi Rapace, usually she is very good in her roles.

Being I was born in and partly grew up in former Czechoslovakia I was shocked to find out there was such a thing as a serial killer in the former Eastern Bloc. That seemed like such a Western thing, or it was Eastern Bloc propaganda that it was a Western thing...

It is Halloween season, so I might be tempted to watch a documentary about Chikatilo. Or maybe not, too grim.

Norbit (2007) - Vintage Eddie Murphy in that he plays multiple roles with the aid of some very heavy makeup and special effects, reminded me of the original Coming to America. I think this comedy is more bittersweet than outright funny, it's a bit like Robin Williams' A Merry Friggin' Christmas. The humor isn't for everyone in today's more sensitive society, but I kinda liked some of it.

Btw., I think Thandiwe Newton is a wonderful actress, liked her in Crash (2004) as well.

Winter's Bone (2010) The film that launched Jennifer Lawrence's career. Simple story about a teen girl looking for her father who is working for a crime gang. Atmospheric and well acted with an unexpected ending.

Dune (2021) hit and miss version of the first half of the novel. Some curious casting and uneven performances don't help. Visually strong as with all Villeneuve movies. It works as a spectacle but could have done a lot more with the material it had to work with. Not too bad and watchable even at 2.5 hours.
